Darpan Barot darpanbarot — I met John Michell a few times and liked him. A sort of elfin intellectual with a dash of mad professor. A kind and thoughtful man, very determined in pursuit of the answer to great puzzles. Some say that he was one of the real initiators of the whole Ancient Mysteries/New Age movement, and they must be right, surely, on the basis of View Over Atlantis alone (first published 1969). What strikes me now, reading the updated version of VoA, is how original and authentic a voice he had, how deeply serious and deeply interesting, even in a field now well-trodden. Part of the book gets a bit lost in a series of huge figures of the Great Pyramidical variety. As maybe he did himself, on occasion. But the first three chapters remain superb, and some of the Glastonbury stuff is extraordinary. A few people may have followed his column in Richard Ingram's 'Oldie' which ran for many years. I never read a bad one. John Michell died a couple of years ago, in his late 70s.

Sanaa Elkhalfi _anaa_lkh — I really loved these books, Incarceron and Sapphique. It felt like reading MC Escher. I enjoyed the creativity behind the concept for this story. I felt a little let down that it didn't have a happier ending but also appreciate it more that way. I don't mind feeling let down once in a while in lieu of a more realistic ending.

Vytautas Adiklis _lashas — Disturbing on so many levels, but an interesting idea. I disliked this book in high school but have come to appreciate it more.

Tommy Cooper coopervoncooper — I was actually reluctant to read this book but my book club chose it so I had to. While it's not my type of book, it was a good read. Very much so a page turner full of twists and turns. Now I have to read Cartel 2 to find out what happens. It'll hook you!

On the day of her choosing, Beatrice frets over her decision, but follows her heart and picks Dauntless. The Dauntless are wild, daring, and more free than Beatrice has ever been allowed to be. At least, that's how they appear. Once Beatrice, now “Tris” begins her training, she learns that appearances are not always reality. The Dauntless train their initiates to be fearless, ruthless, and, some might say, mindless. It hasn't always been this way, but then, the other factions have become similarly flawed and their original goals and intentions have been lost over time. As Tris fights for her place among the Dauntless, the Erudite are planning a violent coup that will exterminate the Abnegation and forever alter the power structure. Tris discovers – almost too late – what it really means to be Divergent, and must use her new found knowledge to stop the Erudite. Exciting and seductive reading with a strong female protagonist. Beatrice is destroyed in the her transformation from Abnegation to Dauntless, shedding first her name and then her fears as she discovers a courage and steel in herself that she didn't know existed. She must sacrifice all that is dear to her in order to prevent the slaughter of the Abnegation at the hands of her fellow Dauntless, who are trapped in a simulation they can't control or escape. Tris kicks some serious ass. Reminiscent of Katniss from the Hunger Games.
