Antonio Armenta a2cruz — I didn't get very far into this book. In the second or third chapter, he gets mad at his dogs for killing some of the farm's (free-ranging) chickens, and in response leaves them tied up for a week with the rotting chickens hanging from their necks. The point of that story is essentially to introduce the one rooster (Lazarus) who survived the dogs... he doesn't seem to see anything strange or wrong about his treatment of the dogs. I found that I couldn't respect him enough to even keep reading after that passage. It was stomach-turning.

Lynn Xu _eery_xu — ** spoiler alert ** I'm not sure why I feel that this is one of my new favorites but I'll try. Ella Varner is a gossip columnist that is living with her environmentally aware, comfortable boyfriend when she receives a call from her Mother that she has secluded herself from. Mom tells her that her little sister has just had a baby, that neither one of them knew about, and has just dumped said baby on Mom. Ella has to head for Houston and take over the duties of the baby or Mom is going to turn the baby over to Foster Care. When Ella gets there her Mother immediately gives all responsibility over. Ella is faced with taking care of an infant and trying to find her sister. Once she has talked to her cousin, that was sharing an apartment with her sister, she is given a name of a man that could possibly be the baby's Father. So she head to see him to confront him with taking a DNA test to determine Paternity. Jack Travis is a man born with money, but has worked hard to earn his own place in the world. He loves women and has dated and bedded many. When a impertinent woman with a baby shows up on his office wanting a meeting, he is intrigued. But when she suggests that he could be the baby's Father, he out and out tells her that she is barking up the wrong tree. He didn't sleep with her sister. But agrees to take the test to get rid of her, and to maybe get to know her. While Ella is searching for the truth about the paternity of the baby, she finds out a few about herself. And Jack Travis is there to help along the way. I liked that there was humor in their relationship in this book. You don't always find that in romance books. This is such a sweet story of self discovery and love that I will be reading this again and again. Definitely giving this one 5 out of 5 stars!
