Laura Duggan _aura_uggan — Collections of short stories tend to be filed under "not my thing." However, I found the situation for Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies to be quite the contrary. While I'm not sure enjoyable is truly a fitting word for this collection of pieces, due to the fact that several of the stories contain content that is downright depressing. However, I can confidently say that it was worth reading, and then some. While several of the pieces where rather saddening, there was a pleasant mixture in between them, with the occasional uplifting tale. Very easy to be read on a casual level as long sit downs are not required to stay in tune with the story, or lack there of.

Hanae Kudo hanaekdesign — Odd book. It starts out more as a collection of essays with a common character, but ends all wrapped up. Enjoyed it, though it was not just the disjointed writing, but also the strangeness of the african norms that made it harder for me to really fall into the book. The otherness did highlight all that is similar and gave me much insight into a culture that I know nothing about. Plus I love strong women characters and this lady character is incredible.
