Steve Sagert _agertsc186 — i thought foer did an outstanding job of creating the multi-dimensiona characters, all of whom have been so deeply affected by the Holocaust and are all trying to come to terms with theirs (and their families) pasts... and also revealing what each character is driven by and searching for: no one is who they immediately seem at the onset. i loved the play between the "interpreter" in the Ukraine and the main character. i thought it was expertly written, original, and moving.

Markos Arcadium naru_bolso3aa4 — After reading Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, I've been very excited to start the Kane Chronicles series. I'm not too familiar with Egyptian mythology (kind of just know the basics), so this book was actually quite eduational for me. There was a lot of things I didn't know about Egypt and Egypt mythology. Like the first Percy Jackson book though, I still felt like The Red Pyramid was trying to force alot into me at once. I got a bit confused with the different creatures (alot of them had similar names). Sadie and Carter were excellent protagonists for the story. They were a brother and sister who only ever met twice a year, and through the whole book they learned to discover each other. At first I thought this series would be the same as the Percy Jackson series with the kids being the children of the gods, so it was nice for the setup to be more about Sadie and Carter being descended from the pharaohs and that it was all about being the host for a god. I also liked Riordan's layout with having Sadie narrate a few chapters, then switch to Carter for a few other chapters. I admit, I did get a little confused sometimes with the switching narrator, especially if, say, Sadie narrated for about 2-3 chapters at a time, and then the narration switched to Carter for another 2-3 chapters. But it was easily to adjust to that after a while. Gotta say: loved Bast and Anubis! I think they were two of my fave characters. Bast is basically a human cat, what's not to love? And then Anubis, I've always been fascinated with that god from mythology. I think the only big problem I had with the book was that I felt it was rushed in some places, or not explained enough. There was alot to take in, especially when the revelations occured about which gods were in whose body, who was good, who was bad. It seemed like Sadie and Carter just naturally did things, and I sometimes felt like the scenarios they were dropped into didn't pose them much of a challenge---there was always an easy way out, or a character just happened to rescue them in the nick of time. Events felt kind of random rather than having a point A to B to C. Overally, I did like the book though, especially the characters. Plus, I learned alot of about Egypt!

Romel Señar romel02 — I classify this under 'close but no cigar'. The idea was good but the execution lacking and sloppy. I had a hard time keeping the characters apart for the first 50 or so pages. the middle was good and interesting, but by the end I lost my interest in the characters and felt it was overwrought and tear-jerky.
