Mikkel Holm mhpetersen — I'm a little late to the zombie bandwagon, and to tell the truth, I'm still not fully in fan with. I like the random zombie movie and book, and if there's a "Tweet like it's the Zombie Apocalypse Day" on Twitter, I'll join in. But unlike my husband, I am not a zombie enthusiast and have never appreciated them as anything that could be multi-faceted. "Feed" takes the concept to a different level. This isn't your standard story about zombies walking around eating people's brains. In the post-Rising world that Shaun and Georgia Mason live in, George Romero is hailed as a survivalist hero and bloggers are celebrities of the media world. When the Mason's blogging team is chosen to follow a presidential hopeful on the road, they're thrilled at the opportunity of a lifetime. Things on the road get dangerous, however, when someone starts targeting the candidate's family and the blogging team for assassination, using the same virus that has spread over the world and turned so many people into zombies. The blog team finds their ratings going higher while their assignment tests their ultimate survival skills. This book is not a simple story. The future setting is a detailed one that the author developed well. The idea of blogging becoming a main source of news isn't far fetched as even now, blogs play an important roll in how information is distributed. Even the Kellis-Amberlee virus is believable, and so this book goes from being a fun zombie read to an account that makes the reader go, "Wow, I can see how this would happen." I don't like to give spoilers, but I will say that this book brought out all kinds of emotions in me. I definitely recommend it as a good read, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Newsflesh series.

Marina Molon marinamolon — סיימתי את הספר "הירושה" מאת שאנדור מאראי. הציר עליו נסוב הספר הוא האהבה השקרנית. בניגוד לספר הראשון של מראי שתורגם לעברית, "הנרות בערו עד כלות", לא מדובר כאן בספרות מופת, אלא בנובלה דקה שמידי פעם צצות בה אמירות ותובנות מסקרנות. ניסיתי למקד מה כל כך הפריע לי בספר, והגעתי למסקנה שאי האמינות של העלילה והבחירות של הדמויות. בסופו של דבר, הדמויות מצטיירות נורא זקנות, בזמן שבפועל הן באמצע שנות ה- 50, הן כל כך תקועות בעבר שלהן, ולא מתקדמות לשום מקום שלטעמי זה סוג של רמיה ספרותית, שנועדה לשרת את העלילה. בגדול התאכזבתי לא רק מהנרטיב הספרותי אלא גם מאופן בניית העלילה, שהותירה אותי תמהה על כוונות המשורר. מומלץ, רק אם חייבים. Pocos textos tienen este irremediable carácter de obra maestra, y de imponer silencio, de forzar un asentimiento aterrado, como la novela corta de Fitzgerald. Toda la obra de Fitzgerald es un único desarrollo de esta proposición, y sobre todo de su "es evidente". Un hombre y una mujer, unas parejas (...) que lo tienen todo para ser felices, como suele decirse: bellos, encantadores, ricos ,superficiales y llenos de talento. Y luego, algo sucede que hace que se rompan, exactamente como un plato o un vaso. Terrible mano a mano de la esquizofrénica y el alcohólico, a menos que la muerte no se los lleve a los dos. ¿Acaso es esto la famosa autodestrucción? ¿Qué pasó exactamente? No intentaron nada especial que estuviera por encima de sus fuerzas; y sin embargo, se despiertan como tras una batalla demasiado grande para ellos, el cuerpo roto, los músculos agarrotados, el alma muerta: "Tenía la impresión de estar de pie en el crepúsculo en un campo de tiro abandonado, con un fusil vacío en la mano y las dianas derribadas. Pero todos estos accidentes ruidosos ya produjeron sus efectos en su momento; y no serían suficientes por sí mismos si no socavaran, si no profundizaran algo de toda otra naturaleza y que, por el contrario, no ha sido puesto de manifiesto por ellos sino a distancia y cuando ya es demasiado tarde: la grieta silenciosa.
