I changed my star rating to 3/5. I liked it reading it, I did, so that's a more accurate description. It's definitely a page-turner and you want to see what people will do next. But all those negative things I've been reading and thinking about (especially with the movie) are true. It's too neat of a story, ah no loose ends. Too many of the characters are shallow, and I think it focuses far too much on Skeeter.

I've read some decent how to write books since college. On hopes and dreams, "if I could do anything and do it well, I'd write a novel." This is the greatest "how to" I've ever read. It's interesting, cunning and historical.

Meyer's final installment falls flat after a sharp rise of quality from Eclipse. The first chunk of the book is not bad, but not terribly good either. The Cullen's finances do jump the shark to an unbelievable level. The third chunk builds a lot of tension for not much payoff. For the incredibly large cast of the last bit, they don't do much for the story. Especially when Bella pulls the ultimate deus ex machina. Her main cast even continues to take a back seat again. Emmett manages to remain meathead scenery for the fourth time. The real bright spot in this book is the middle. Spoiler here, but Jacob becomes the view point for a while. It is amazing how much more interesting this story is when told from Jacob's view. He's a much deeper character than Bella and Meyer actually writes the wolf-thought dialogue very well and actually pretty entertainingly. In the end, though it doesn't feel like much has happened. Yay, happy ending where all the loose ends and potential sadness is tied up so perfectly. At the end, I didn't feel like I'd gained anything from reading the series.
