Some of the essays in this collection are pretty incredible.

I used this book to target multisyllabic words. It was useful in that it helped me to recognize that my client was able to produce new multisyllabic words much more easily than I expected him to. I also found pictures of the machines on google images and used them to make a similar take home book.

takes a couple chapters to get into, but once you get going you can't stop reading. and once you get to the end you need to read it again to figure out what you missed along the way.

Chrysanthemum thinks her name is absolutely perfect, until she starts school. Worked great as a readaloud for the kindergarten because you can add plenty of emotion and stress on the Chrysanthemums. (such concern - "but why didn't she have a principal to tell? "Those kids are mean!) A likable lead with some humor in a cozy sort of story. My only real quibble is that in the epilogue we learn that Chrysanthemum laughs at Victoria's musical failure throughout the flower dance. Maybe it's not fair/realistic to ask her to rise above? And, while I know I sound like Victoria, Chrysanthemum is a crazy name for a kid. I know you can make fun of any name, but come on mouse parents.

This was a good fast read. Pretty short. A little contrived at times, and somewhat overt in its lifting from the Judeo-Christian theology. But overall well written. I liked the main characters, enough that sometimes I felt like throttling them for their actions. There's magic aplenty, if not quite explained. The concept of using glass to store magic is interesting. There is contact with gods, almost-understandable evil, suitable creepiness, and unrequited love. Something will happen to these characters to completely wrench them apart or draw them so close that none can sunder it.[return][return]I'd recommend this. I was a little put out to see it's actually copyrighted to Judith Tarr...who is not a bad author by any stretch, I like her quite a bit, really...but I thought it might be a new author. Eh. It's very obviously the first in a series. It moves along at quite a clip...there's not so much action, per se, but a good amount of tension and some mystery.[return][return](from my site: http://etoiline.vox.com/library/post/...)

I picked up this book because I was wanting more of Twilight and I loved the way Stephanie Meyer's tells a story very much; so I figured this book would be well written and it was! I loved it and I plan to read it again; it's a very long book with a lot of detals but well worth the time investment; however, I would have liked a few more details about Wanda's/Ian's life together afterwards. About the first 50ish pages into the book, it was hard for my pea brain to grasp all these references about other planets, lifeforms and how these "souls" came to be, I had to just dismiss any of these extraterrestrial entries and stick with the story; I was determined to get thru this book because they're making it into a film. I'm so glad I put the time into in because the bond between sister and brother was so heartwarming; I literally sobbed thru the parts where she was separated from her little brother, missing him, crying his name out, being reunited and then his believing in her; I absolutely loved the dynamics of this sister and brother in the story; my heart wrenched that never happened to me when I read a book before; the details about the Arizona desert were so accurate, you could feel the desperation, the heat, the thirst and hunger; I felt like I was half dead crawling my way across the dessert with Wanda and I could identify with love being the motivator to keep her going; I winced a lot at Wanda's treatment in the underground community was so unbelievably cruel; you could feel the blows she took and the feel the bruises and sores left behind; that part of the book was hard on me envisioning someone treated so viciously, but it makes the ending all the more comforting. I also liked the undying, never waivering love concept with Melanie and Jared; I also liked people giving someone different a chance and learning to love them for what they are inside concept. The main thing I take away from this book is loyalty and there's just not enough of that in this world today; so I really liked this story and would like to see more.
