There certainly were a lot of different surprises and unexpected revelations packed into this short book! It seemed like Alexia was forced to deal with truths, semi-crazy plans and the dual issues of trust and change all on her own. Some of the plot devices were a little too pat. I get that Lord Akeldama is always in the know, and therefore can afford to place his precious drones in a general area, in the off-chance that their unique talents will be needed. But it seemed too easy. Boots and Tizzy were entirely too available to be believed, even given Akeldama's knowledge. The two Lyall revelations in this story took me by surprise, which was nice. I didn't expect a whole lot of the plot to center around Randolph or his past, but it definitely was nice to get a deeper glimpse into what makes him and what's going on in his mind. They were interesting twists, but I would have liked to see them explored through a little more... Felicity remains a pain in the arse, and I was disappointed that Alexia could have let herself be duped by her dimwit (or so I still choose to think of her) sister. I'd like to know how that'll be handled, and where they all go from there. Alexia just can't let Felicity get away with all havoc she's caused since Changeless! My gripes with the book are few. First, that it was so dang short. Second, that most of the story took place during Full Moon, which meant an absence of both Conall and Lyall. Sure, they were around for a bit in the beginning and then once again at the end, but the story was mostly all Alexia, all the time. Finally, I'm a little annoyed by the fact that Alexia was able to, in the space of several hours, come up with solutions for almost every problem that presented itself to her the night before. She's smart, sure. But capable of putting a nice, fluffy ribbon on the previous night's happenings with nary a curl out of place? Too pat!

This book was a little slow, but still good. I liked Grace and her views of being a servant in the early 1900's and how she had kept a haunting secret for 80 years. I liked the present day viewpoint and then it switching back to her memory... Overall, I say it was pretty good.

I read this book after being introduced to Barbara Kingsolver's "The Bean Trees" and it was amazing. She has such a way of getting each character just right, and the audience is at once comfortable with her language. There is such a spectrum of feeling and emotion in her words, and she takes you through fear, aggression, sadness, hope, fury, and euphoria all in one chapter. The story line is unforgettable, too. She is a true storyteller.
