I liked this for it's format... like Century Girl, I found it appealing because it was a biography in mixed media. Not a balanced biography, but interesting to look at.

This part was sweet. "He's not my friend. He's my brother." Isabelle says to the Inquisitor. I hated that woman in this story, but eventually felt bad for her near the end. You would know if you read it. I think they should have kept this part in. It showed the bond between Isabelle and Jace. Isabelle lied to protect Jace but when Isabelle was about to get stripped of her marks, Jace speaks up because he could not bear to see his 'sister' hurt. CLICK HERE to read. Merged review: Oh my, oh my, oh my!! This is another short. Alec goes to Magnus Bane's place to thank him for saving his life. Alec asks out Magnus for the first time, but that is not the only first that happens in this scene. Alec admits to never being kissed and Magnus shows him what it feels like to be kissed for the first time. Once again, Cassandra did not disappoint. I am not into the whole guy on guy scene, but this short was written very well and I wasn't grossed out at all. It was very interesting! I loved the ending. I found myself smiling. Read it to find out why! Merged review: I was looking for this all over, but I found it. Clicking on the URL at the top helps! haha. Ok Review time. This was such a great little addition. A scene in the book but from Jace's prospective. I loved it. I love how Jace loves Clary but doesn't tell her. I love his jealousy towards Simon. It was great. Everything Cassandra writes is magic. Read it. It will only take five of your minutes. It will not disappoint. Merged review: love love loved it

So much to discuss in this one--I loved it--there's not a lot of action, so don't expect an explosive ending

Wow, okay it book is probably next to the thickest with The Dark Tower book seven being the thickest. This book gives you so much back ground information that it somewhat overloads your mind. Without this book you could not understand how Roland's journey begins or for what reason. After reading this book, I refused to read anything dealing with The Dark Tower for at least 4-5 months. I was so exhausted after this book.

Weird but a pretty decent glimpse at humanity and its shortcomings.

This is a great piece of Canadian fiction. It is one of the few works of Can Lit with a queer woman at the centre of the plot. Whittall is definitely a good story teller. Her writing is tight yet descriptive. I enjoyed the historical fiction aspect of the book. At the same time that the main character is going through her own romantic and growing troubles, the 1995 Referendum in Quebec is going on. The book takes place in Montreal so the lives of these characters are saturated in those events. The plot does a nice 360 at the end which makes any loose ends tie up nicely. Readers who enjoy a good ending won't be disappointed. Overall, a great piece of queer fiction.

Stephen King recommended author and book. He says: "BEST OUTRIGHT HORROR NOVELIST. Bentley Little, in a walk. Don't know Bentley Little? You're not alone. He's probably the genre's best-kept secret, but at least 10 of his novels are available in paperback; you can pick up three for the price of that flashy new hardcover you've got your eye on. The best thing about Little is that he can go from zero to surreal in 6.0 seconds. My favorites are The Store (think Wal-Mart run by SAYYY-tan) and Dispatch, in which a young fellow discovers that his letters to the editor actually get things done. Bad things." King blurb about this novel: "Little is the horror poet of ordinary things. In this surreal novel, a lonely young man discovers his letters to the editor — and to the famous — bring actual results. Of course he eventually finds out he's working in Satan's own office pool, but that's the fun of the damned thing." 1/10/06 Lilja's Library Stephen's Picks.

I wasn't impressed by this book. First of all, I did not like the main character at all. Also, I didn't feel like I learned anything new about Africa or it's people. Though the writing is in a very sparse style, the story could have been told in a few paragraphs. The ending was completely predictable. I'm not sure why people compare the writing to Hemingway because there isn't the depth that Hemingway is able to establish. The characters seemed to be flat stereotypical Africans.
