Presented as the biography of the grandparents of a fictional character, this lovely novel is a strangely engaging read. Though the book starts off slow and is a little difficult to really sink into, once the story takes off, it is difficult to put down. Well-written, sweet, funny, and a little naughty, this novel was an unexpectedly enjoyable offering. Herb and Lorna are wonderful characters that I found myself totally invested in- the grandparents any of us would love to have. This story of an ordinary family, its place in history, and its quirky secrets offers hours of enjoyment that you will want to share with your friends and family. 4 stars (would have been 5 if I hadn't started and stopped a couple of times before I finally got hooked).

A solid work of narrative journalism, one that raised the ire of big corporations across the country, who have instituted a smear campaign against the author. The sections about the meatpacking plants are particularly harrowing, and not just for the gruesome and unsanitary way the meat is processed but for the way the labor--often undocumented immigrants--is treated.

Amazing Grace tells the story of little-known William Wilberforce. At a young age, Wilberforce went through a dramatic conversion to Christianity, and spent the rest of his life living his faith out — fighting for the abolition of the British slave trade, as well as a number of other human rights issues. He saw Jesus loving “the least of these” and made that his life’s work too. Despite being a very small man (in stature) and having a sickly countenance, he managed to do more within his life than most of us could do in a hundred. Still, he got to the end of his life, and lamented that he could have done so much more. I found his story incredibly inspiring and I think you will too. If you don’t feel like reading the whole biography, the movie version, also called Amazing Grace, is quite good. Read my full review here: http://letseatgrandpa.com/2011/03/20/...

I started reading this ages ago and for some reason never finished - though I was enjoying it. Finished - finally . . . I didn't enjoy it as much as the first, but it was still intricately plotted and a fun book. I think probably the only problem was that the plot was too heavy - too many players, too many twists and not as much time to explore the emotions and inner lives, so that the few times we did get into how she was feeling about the life she was living it felt like an after thought. Having now started, book three of the trilogy, I'm even more aware of how much that was missing from book two - because the relationships and emotions play a much deeper part of that book, and as such, I think make it richer.

Sarah MacLean is one of my new favourite authors. Her books always seem to have what every historical romance should: a well-executed plot, lively dialogue and smart characters. You believe what the characters do and feel (even in exceptionable circumstances) because they are so well crafted. In Nine Rules to Break, the heroine Calpurnia Hartwell is reasonable and likeable, and I really wanted to see her succeed. After living as a sensible, proper wallflower for most of her life, she decides to take life by the horns and experience a little adventure. This happens to lead her to a man's bedroom in the wee hours of the night - which would normally have me pulling my hair out, because what proper young lady does that? - but her quiet desperation makes sense, and I was applauding her all the way. The hero, the Marquess of Ralston, is equally endearing, and a fitting match to a spirited heroine. Their relationship followed a natural progression, without any of the annoying Great Misunderstandings that some authors rely on to artificially create tension. Sarah MacLean is now on my must-buy list.

I reread the other Blue Blood books before I continued with this one and they really held up to a second reading, they were much better than I remembered. The writing is actually pretty good. I like the way she describes the characters and I definately want to know what happens next. It's like gossip girl but with vampires. I like the whole demonology heaven/hell thing too, it's interesting. I think this book was too short though!

Extremely confusing for me. I liked the idea, but I really didn't understand much from 3 or 4 pages in all the way to the end.

After reading this, it's no wonder he writes so well about despair.

Her şey ayrıntılarla ilgili.
