I've had this near my bed for months now. I read it all the goddamn time, especially the first bit, which is a collection of a number of the Pali texts glommed together to give a sensible presentation of the historical Buddha's actual teachings. The title irks me to no end, though.

The most powerful and troubling book I've read in a long time. I started reading it while I was overseas but had to put it down. It was too emotionally intense. Roth manages to drag every possible drop of feeling from most pages.

I was surprised how much I liked this book. I voted for Obama and think he will be a good president but don't think he is flawless and perfect like many people seem too. I disagree with some of his choices and strategies thus far. But I think even if you don't like Obama you can't help but be impressed by his story and his eloquence. I like that this book was not about his political life...but is a story about his family and the lives of his parents and grandparents. It is amazing that in two generations his family went from living in huts in Africa to living in the White House. I found it really inspiring and really well written. You have to admit Obama definitely knows how to write, even if you think he doesn't know how to govern.

This was lovely and sad and very absorbing...beautiful imagery and beautiful characters. Jenny's voice is incredibly strong...a very good read about a family coping with the absence of their oldest daughter. Many passages were so touching I kept thinking about them afterwards, and I think Karen Foxlee is certainly a writer to watch.

I remember this being one of my favorite novels of the Victorian Era--until I read Jane Eyre...but that was all in HS. I still think P&P is irreplaceable, but I don't really enjoy reading it (as much as others) for some reason. Though Austen's very hand grabs me into her world, I tend to get irritated with the characterization of her heroines--which are a tad cartoonish. That being said, I love-truly love and am moved deeply by Elizabeth and Darcy's relationships. Definitely read this.
