I liked the first two books and this third book was just more fighting and death and it's ending is not what I imagined at all. The epilogue was too sappy and resolved for me. I liked the characters of the series and felt the third book didn't hold true to some of them. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could. A let down.

This book is (to borrow a phrase) like the circus: in tents. It is beautifully written and has some amazingly poignant passages. It is not a fun read. It is not a feel good book. The characters are not likeable. Bad things happen. All that said...my goodness, this is a great book. But I'm going to need to cleanse my palate with some chick lit sometime soon.

One of the things that I love about Pride and Prejudice is the banter between the characters, especially Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. In the book she had spunk which I really appreciate. This was obviously a collection of letters and I thought it was boring and didn't capture the spirit of Elizabeth's personality.

This review id for both Mrs. Bridge and Mr. Bridge. The following quotation is from Mr. Bridge: "He wondered...if this is how they would end their lives, accompanying each other so closely, loving each other, touching one another with affection and sympathy, yet singularly alone." To me this pretty much summed up both novels. A sad yet poignant look at the lives of a couple spanning from the 1920's to the 1940's.

I'm giving this four stars even though I didn't like the ending. The writing was superb and the plot kept me guessing..........I felt sorry for both men and could understand how a tragic death of a child could bring them both to either murder or suicide.........but I wish the writer would have chosen another way to go. Still I'd reccomend it to anybody. It's a treat.
