Interesting account of what it means to be raised by a zealot - the alienation, indoctrination, and isolation. The writing style is easygoing and accessible. Interesting read.

More excellent writing from the author of the Kite Runner. Similar in that it's another intimate tale of the tough life in Afghanistan. The character development is wonderful, though once again the details of their lives are quite dark and depressing. The story really sucks you in quickly - it is focused on the lives of two women. I found that the end of the book lagged a bit and didn't wrap up quite as neatly as the Kite Runner, but still, this was a very enjoyable, powerful read. Makes one appreciate the benefits of being a woman in the United States today.

TOUCH OF THE DEMON ended up being a crazy ride full of loyalty, betrayal, love and loss. Enemies become allies, allies become enemies and those on the sidelines end up being more then they seem. So much is revealed yet so many new questions arise. Just when you think you know what is going on Kara is finally caught in the summons that brings her to the demon realm. I very much enjoyed the descriptions and the building of the demon realm. It was easy to get into it and feel that you were there with the characters. I admit that there was some pretty slow spots in the beginning of the book but so much happens its hard to focus on that for to long. I am kinda speechless and cant think of anything else to say without giving away any amazing spoilers. Kara will never be the same and the whole game has changed dramatically. Wow not what I expected at all and HOLY crud do I need the next book.

Ongoing saga of a half-faery. I think this series would be far better if it was in color. Also I noticed some continuity problems (coatless in one frame, coatful in the next). But I like the edge mixed with fae elements of this series. Reading the two volumes far apart didn't work so well for me, but I enjoy looking at the lush illustrations.

I enjoyed this book and think it would provide good discussion for book groups although I did find it a bit hard to believe the "simplicity" of the women settling into life with the indians.... From other books and articles I have read the Indians way of life was not easy or as nice as protrayed in this book.
