The dummy was so funny in this book. He would say things to the Dad like, "Is that a moustache or are you just chewing on a rat?" I still remember the lines because they really made me laugh when I was young.

At last, a balanced, informative and very intelligent account of the history of the GDR, neither glossing over its sins nor overstressing them. It is fascinating to read of the way the country's citizens reacted and interacted with their regime, often supporting some aspects of it while pushing hard for other less acceptable things to change. The first history that is more than just a black and white account of theose 40 years. My one complaint? Add a who's who list to the book. It's irritating to have to go and check Google to find out more about the roles and functions of some of the people mentioned

Weirdly enough, this is the first Seth Godin book I've read although he's a marketing guru and I, well you know, work in marketing. I put this succinct book on hold from the library because I thought the title and subtitle were provocative. Hmm, what could it mean? Obviously something I needed to find out. And then when I was having one of those days at work, possibly one of the worst days I've had in the six months at my current position, it fortuitously became available for pick up. I mean, a book on quitting? Come on, manna from heaven when you're having a rotten day. Godin's book is easily digestible for the fast reader, not taking more than an evening to read. However, I had lots of work and other responsibilities going on so had to read it over three nights versus devouring it. I have to say perhaps this was best, because it allowed me to reflect on his straightforward words. Basically the book is about when you should quit an endeavor versus when you should stick with it. Doesn't matter whether its a job, a career, a relationship, a sale, a hobby. You name it. Sounds simple enough, right? Godin cuts to the chase and asks the hard questions. Are you in a place where you really should just quit? Are you in a place where you want to quit, but you really should stick it out? How do you know? What do you do? At face value, this is a clever book by a clever man. It isn't overly pedantic or verbose; it cuts to the chase and sums up what we all might think we know. At times, he's a little pompous, but if I were a marketing guru, I would be too. If you think you've thought about these quit/stick questions and have found answers, then this book will serve as a reminder. A gentle nudge. If you think you've thought about these questions but haven't found the answers, then this book will guide you to think and hopefully act about your situation in a very simple, but effective way. If you've never thought about these questions and don't care about the answers, then maybe you should. You might just be ready to quit. A thought-provoking work. I definitely want to read more by Godin.

Amazing book. From the beginning, Marquez spins a yarn of this charmed family, the Buendias, who cross tedious and death-defying South American terrain with a few others, to found a village - Macondo. Fantastic and realistic elements interplay to produce a n eerily believable history of South America. The echos of events and certain words evoke a certain pathos as the repetition of tragedies unfold and curl up into a perfect circle of chaos, knowledge, love, revenge, fear, wisdom and ignorance. The closing of this circle -- the ending -- stuns one into revered contemplation. Read it as soon as you possibly can.

Much better than Ishmael. More detailed descriptions of the philosophy. Unfortunately, the fiction element is no better, but the philosophy is incredible.

Can't thank the author anymore, for comming up with great ideas like Jurassic park. The movie did ruin some of the suspense, but still did the trick. Can't wait to read his other books.
