I reread this book. Rarely do I do this but our book club was reading it now so I wanted to refresh my 4 year old memory of the book. I must say I started to skim the book but found it so enticing that I read it cover to cover and enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

I work with single moms, the subject of this book, and this book is such an insightful look at their lives and how welfare does or does not work for them. Reform has decreased the number of people on welfare, but as this book shows, they aren't necessarily better off. This book studies actual women showing some who are responsible for their situation and some who have had obstacle after obstacle they can't overcome. Its a wonderful book if you are interested in why people are poor and what we do as a society to help them.

This, to my understanding, a classic, but I think it's kind of lame. The writing is not that interesting, and the story itself doesn't end well. Of course, maybe it's more of a historical novel where I can't expect a happily ever after, but whatever.

Part autobiography about Karen Brady, part interviews of successful business women, this is an interesting read sharing hints and tips. Karen Brady's story is strong, and if I'm honest I would probably have preferred to read about her than the piece meal highlights from other business women to illustrate the 10 steps. It is an easy read, and I made notes against quite a few sections but few if any were specifically female points.

A very sweet story about a cat adopted from the pound. Any cat lover knows the personality of a cat, and this senryu story tells it perfectly! The illustrations are simple yet full of adorable detail. I love the facial expression on the cat's face when he looks at the boy like, "didn't you hear me?"
