I've seen Dr Robert Rohm's presentation in person - probably over a dozen times. I feel like I already know this subject, and yet, I still highlighted the book and learned MORE. This book contains excellent explanations, examples, and case studies. The D-I-S-C Personality Styles, as described by Dr Rohm, are simple to understand, logical in their presentation, and effective when put to use.

fantastic fantastic fantastic. My favorite book ever is Mountains Beyond Mountains. This reminded me so much of that book. The relationships Greg formed were fascinating. The acceptance he found from a beautiful, misunderstood people renewed my hope. Haji Ali was an incredible man. I learned lessons from him as they were described in the book, just as Greg had. The conditions children live in there among the ruins of war is abhorrent. Greg truly is changing the world. No one can deny that. Just a phenomenal read. I recommend it to everyone.

So the whole Aenea as Christ thing was a bit much. And the "romance" between her and Raul so pale and uninteresting that it did nothing to make me want to reach the end of the over 700 pages of tiresome, unedited detail. And there really was no reason for the sex scene in which Raul eats out Aenea. Was there? This much anticipated closing volume of the Hyperion cycle is enjoyable as a tale, but could have been hundreds of pages shorter. I love big, meaty reads, I admit, but shouldn't you want to get to the end of a story you've been following through the course of 4 novels? I didn't. I almost stopped reading it just because I didn't want to have to carry it with me around Europe anymore. But I stuck with it and finished it on the plane to Paris from Madrid. I hope whoever found it in the seat pocket just happens to want to read it. It's an effort.

Honestly, I would probably only give this book a 2.5 star rating. As some have commented already, this book is very hard to get into. I found this book difficult to follow with all the names mentioned through the chapters. I don't have much knowledge with the history of the American Mafia, thus the reason for the read. The book is extremely compact in information in which I found myself many times wanting to put it down because of the overabunance of details. However, this book does provide an excellent overview of the American Mafia through the 60 - 70 years it covers. I especially like the chapters on Luciano, Capone, and Costello. These were the major figures in the American Mafia which I would like to look further into. Lastly, I think there are some good leadership lessons here. Capone was rash and over ambitious, thus leading to a spotlight on the mafia and his early removal after only three years. However, Capo's like Luciano and Costello who ruled more patiently and less aggressively had reigns which were longer and more successful.

2.5 stars This was a very disappointing story. To be fair, a lot of the disappointment might be due to high expectations given the GR rating (~4.53 when I picked up the book). Then again, the GR majority and I often disagree. So, why didn't I like the story? Well, there are many things that contributed to my frustration but the main were the "loose" prose (aka rambling and repetition), overuse of flashbacks, and limited character development. 1) Rambling and repetition: This story would have been much more powerful had the word count been cut in half. What's more, it wouldn't have affected anything regarding the actual plot and characters. The author presents the same event multiple times (in the present, in a flashback, in more detail, in reference...) Guess what? I got it the first time around. My reading time is precious and I felt like it was being wasted. As I passed the midpoint of the story, I started skipping pages during the flashbacks. Speaking of... 2)Overuse of flashbacks: Flashbacks are a useful tool in every author's tool box, but like most things in life they are only good in moderation. That was certainly not the case here. Flashbacks told in the first person POV of a character than was not present during the events being related...yuck. 3)Limited character development: Given the extra-generous word count, I expected above average development of the main characters and solid development of the secondary characters. Unfortunately, it doesn't pan out. None of the characters came to life for me. I suspect that was due to the use of first person POV from only one character. At the very least I would have liked Otter's POV. I have great respect for anyone who has the ability to put words on a page in a coherent manner, and even more respect for those who have the guts to expose them to the harsh reality of public opinion. Despite all my frustrations regarding this particular story, I hope that T.J. Klune continues to write and to publish and to grow as an author. There is a lot of potential in this story. Frankly, I am more concerned about the editing. Not sure what the editor was thinking!
