i enjoyed this story. (it wasn't what i thought it was going to be though. i thought it was going to be about the fourth friend from her other three books.) ms. poppen, i have to say has been a delight to read because out of the many regenacy romances i have read her books still managed to introduce me to many new vocabulary. i can't wait for her next book!!

Some may find this depressing, but I found it raw and beautiful, and I loved being surprised by the open sexuality and the issues of women's roles in society. This book was published at the turn of the century (1899), so these are topics that would have been rather radical during its time (which is probably why it wasn't very popular when it was first published). I recommend it.

Amazing book that I am still trying to wrap my head around. Surprisingly it deals more with human behavior that the finance markets which made it so much more enjoyable. The author's style is unique and very narrative, although admittedly some concepts and terms were frequently incomprehensible for me. It is a great book to make one realize just how much one can not trust one's own thoughts, feelings and perceptions and question everything. The only way to consciously live with the handicap of being human is to be aware of it.

The first section runs a little long, as told from a child's perspective. But if you get past that, this is a rather brilliant book. McEwan asks the reader to look at the work as a piece of fiction, not as something that holds any kind of truth and this position is eye-opening. What does fiction mean? What does truth mean in reality? Whose truth is real?

I don't usually read "thrillers," so if I didn't already know and love Joanne Harris' other books I might have been discouraged by the jacket blurb. I'm glad I wasn't because it doesn't read like a thriller—it reads like a character-rich story that will just happens to keep you guessing (almost) to the end. Highly recommended.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!! Taylor Stevens’ “The Informationist” is an absolute must read. If I had to compare the writing style to other remarkable authors I’d have to say, “Wilbur Smith meets Stieg Larsson.” Taylor brings the story to life with the vivid details and precise depiction of a land and people foreign to most. And for those who have firsthand knowledge of the inner politics, land, and peoples of Africa, you won’t be disappointed in the true to life descriptions. I was reading through this so fast I was trying to make myself slow down so it would last longer. However, being the page-turner it is that didn’t work, so I just read it twice. I have no doubt Taylor Stevens is going to be a household name. I’m looking forward to more Vanessa Michael Munroe attitude and adventure. You will not regret buying a copy for yourself and another to pass on to a friend. "To my fellow childhood survivors -- you know who you are." Thank you Taylor!

Although not always pleasant, this book drew me in more than the Kite Runner. The danger in which these people lived is heartbreaking, but inspiring. You could feel what they were going through every step of the way. Well worth a read.
