I enjoyed the Bourne Movies, but was hugely disappointed in the books, of which I read only the first two. As others note, the movies have little in common with the books.

P.G. Wodehouse is the quintessential English prose virtuoso. Around 80% of the entertainment value of his books can be derived from his play with words and idioms. His radiant love for the English language is nothing short of contagious. Are you looking for depth? Go look somewhere else. But if one wishes to plunge into a couple of hours worth of cloudless recreation, one can't go past the master of the comic novel. Stephen Fry put it best: "You don't analyse such sunlit perfection, you just bask in its warmth and splendour."

This is, I think, a little known work of Orwell's that I came across in some used bookstore. The stories of his time working in restaurants is hilarious and a little bizarre. You'd be amazed at how little anything has changed from then til now. I enjoy everything Orwell, I think he's an excellent and keen observer and essayist. This book is a bit of a departure but really fun.

I really wanted to like this book. However, while he presents a decent treatise against factory farming, Safran Foer fails at presenting a compelling argument for what he calls for at the end: vegetarianism. There are a lot of holes in his arguments and a lot of emotional appeal, which dissappointed me since early in the book, he promises to present a broad look at the issues surrounding eating animals, and not necessarily an appeal to become vegetarian. Time and again while reading this book, I hoped that Safran Foer would use clear logic in his arguments, or at least not fall into fallacies ala Logic 101, or the tired emotional appeals in so many other books about vegetarianism. He makes a few completely rediculous claims, one if which is towards the end when he states that eating any meat at all, even grass fed, organic, free range, and non factory-slaughtered is the same as eating factory farmed meat, because it encourages others to eat factory farmed meat. That makes no sense to me. It's obvious that the author leaned towards vegetarianism and made arguments to support that claim, many of which are without much backing. Also, given his ethical issues about factory farming, his decision to tackle the problem by becoming vegetarian seems like a cop out. If factory farming is so destructive, why not fight it on a political level, rather than only through a personal decision not to eat meat. Arguments like that seem very weak. That said, it's a great look at the problems of factory farming--environmental, ethical, and nutritional. Had Safran Foer made an argument for a movement towards supporting small farms and calling for regulations on many factory farming practices, this would be a much better book.

An exploration of the Indian-Pakistani conflicts and the conspiring interventions of the US. Historically based, with fictional characters. Content-wise it's not bad, although stylistically, it could be cleaner. I prefer Mohsin Hamid's style to Mohammed Hanif, but it's not a bad read.

Lovely writing, delving into dark emotional territory.
