I read this because a friend told me it was an incredibly stupid book-not sure why I took that as a positive reccomendation. I was not disappointed, although well written it was so ridiculously implausible and the author came off as a little too involved with the main character, ie-i think he was projecting for the sake of ego. Not sure if he's written anything else and not sure if I care.

This book was 4/5ths great, but unfortunately the ending, like the ending of Stephen King's It completely took me out of the story. I'm sorry, it was just too, hmm..., too, fictional. But the majority of the book was intense and beautiful. If you stop just before you get to the last 25 or so pages, you'll leave happy and pleased. But by all means, do not read to the end.

This book seemed very interesting at first, and I grew tired of it and set it aside. I read quite a bit probably 3/4 of the book and skimmed the rest. It just didn't hold my interest after a while and I grew tired of the topic and weary of the main character.

This was a wonderful retelling, and had a fascinating but simple back story concerning the Beast. It also involved wood carving as one of its main elements; that was part of what made the book so much fun. However, it didn't resolve all the pieces it set up.

Anna is sent to Paris to spend her senior year at a boarding school, the School of America in Paris. Of course she doesn't want to go - her life, her best friend, her potential boyfriend, her little brother and mom are in Atlanta. But Anna doesn't sulk for long, she quickly meets new friends and this one totally hot and totally unavailable boy Etienne St. Clair. Anna is a character that is easy to relate to. Her constant chatter is witty and funny, yet it is realistic. You experience the terror, loneliness and the language barrier that Anna endures during her first few weeks in Paris. You feel her awkwardness and shyness as you see her blunder and bumble. As she struggles you watch her transform and you cheer her on as she follows her heart. Anna and the French Kiss brings Paris alive in its pages.I loved being able to experience and see the sites of Paris through her eyes. I came away with a new appreciation of Paris. I want to visit immediately. The story is funny, warm and realistic. Perfect example of a YA love story.

** spoiler alert ** I'd gotten away from this series for awhile, but when I heard there was going to be a Savannah-centric book I knew I would be jumping back in, as the witches were always my favourite part of the Otherworld series. Balance is the key to this book - Armstrong tries to balance between writing urban fantasy and writing a mystery, and Savannah tries to balance the influence of her mother, Eve, and Paige, the woman who raised her for half her life. Savannah phrases that balancing in a series of negatives - several times she mentions being "not like Paige" or "not like my mom" which leads me to believe that for all her bravado she's not really quite sure who she herself is. And it's clear from what we know about those other women that she is like them, in many ways. Despite the supernatural trappings and characters, the story really does read like a mystery - enough that I was a little upset at first when that mystery ended up having a supernatural explanation. It makes sense when you think about it, but at first it seems kind of deus ex machina. Speaking of the ending - I don't want to spoil it (even with the "spoiler" tag on), but well played, Armstrong, well played.

I liked that this explained (the basics of) quantum physics in a totally understandable way through a fun fantasy story. Tic gets a series of curious letters that tell him that if he can solve the 12 clues he will save many lives. The letters warn that he will be in danger (and he is) and that he can quit at any time by burning the first letter. I loved Sophia...so spunky and smart! And Tic is very likable. I want to know more about Sauto (spelling? I listened to this on CD) and his tragic past. Love Mothball (and what a name! She's a hoot!)

I made the mistake of reading this while away at the beach, so I definitely want to go back and read it again when my brain is actually working. It requires more thought than I gave it. But I still liked it - definitely interesting how much my opinion of the main character changed as the book went on.

Like all of my favorite children’s books, Peter Pan isn’t really a children’s book. I honestly think that this is one of the saddest and most beautiful stories ever written. I found it to be almost nothing like the Disney cartoon version of the story: it’s playful but haunting, and also kind of heartbreaking. If you’re at all psychoanalytically inclined, you'll love it. I also want to recommend the live action movie version that came out a few years ago- although it definitely overplays the story’s sexuality, I really think it captures the spirit of the book. Peter was not quite like other boys: but he was afraid at last. A tremour ran through him, like a shudder passing over the sea; but on the sea one shudder follows another till there are hundreds of them, and Peter felt just the one. Next moment he was standing erect on the rock again, with that smile on his face and a drum beating within him. It was saying, “To die will be an awfully big adventure.”
