A cute, accessible, and not at all prurient illustrated compendium of first-time stories. The stories are diverse -- the coauthors interviewed people from eighteen to eighty, from all walks of life -- and the illustration style differs from story to story to play up the special features of each one. Very human, but in an encapsulated way; most stories are just a page or two, and I thought many of them would have benefited from a few pages of context or fallout. This would have helped differentiate stories that were often otherwise very similar. My favorite stories were the standouts -- Mrs. X, Logan, Ellen, Vic, and especially Kaye come to mind -- but some of the more generic "teenage fumbling" stories might have been standouts too if we'd known what led to them, or what came after. My other gripe is more personal, which is that with the exception of a couple women who saved themselves for marriage,everyone is depicted as losing their virginity by age twenty. That's not so bad by itself -- most people do, after all -- but it's compounded by the fact that they inserted one one-page panel about a thirty-five-year-old comic book store employee for the sole purpose of mocking him for being a virgin. I have a problem with that. He has a story too, I bet, and it deserves to be told no less than the stories of people who have been deflowered.

Wow. Just... wow. I haven't been so impressed with an author (or a book) in a long time. Cassandra Clare managed to grab me from the first page and kept me hooked throughout. There were absolutely no dull points or times the story dragged. I couldn't put it down for the life of me. I was so afraid that this was going to be the one book in the trilogy I didn't like as much - isn't that usually the case when it comes to the conclusion of an amazing series? - but I found myself more in love with this one than I'd been with the first two. Cassie's ability to show the strength of relationships made this book shine: scenes with Jem and Will brought me to tears. Lots and lots and lots of tears (and no, Google, I don't care that this wasn't a proper sentence. Take your green squiggles and go). If you're a fan of Cassandra Clare's writing, I definitely recommend you go out and get yourself a copy of Clockwork Princess (that is if you haven't already). If you've never encountered Cassie's writing before, I recommend you pick up both Clockwork Angel and City of Bones and see where it takes you.

I really enjoyed this book. I, along with most people am fascinated by identical twins. The author really put me into the shoes of the "sane" twin and I still find myself thinking of the book when I see twins and thinking of all the issues that they may face. I did find parts of the book to be a bit repetative, but still throughly enjoyed it!

I liked this novel. What was satisfying for me was that at the end, the loose ends are if not tied in a bow, introduced to each other. While the lives detailed were often sad and hopeless and confused, there was some sense of order and grace at the end that was reassuring. Hoffman is an exquisite writer, and while I could have done with less of the practical magical realism here (was the ghost actually necessary?), I thought her point of learning to let go to move on was clear and well rendered.

This book was recommended to me by several people - and although I have enjoyed reading books written from an animal's perspective before - I am always hesitant to read one. It just seems that it would too easy to be become contrived and corny. If I had heard the the book was also about car racing and had a spiritual bent I definitely would not have picked it up. All that being said this was a really sweet optimistic book. Perhaps a bit sentimental but it fit my mood when I was reading it.
