Gone With The Wind is my all time favorite and Alexandra Ripley did a great justice to it with her sequal. In the end of Gove With The Wind Scarlett had figured out that she really did love Rhett and that she wanted nothing more to be with him, however she had figured it out to late. Yet in Scarlett it takes a while but her tomorrow being another did finally come. Scarlett figured out that love and family are the most important things a person can have. In the serious Scarlett is portrayed as a conieving spoiled rich girl, however no matter how much of a fool she may have been the men that followed after her were just as big as fools if not bigger. In the end Scarlett ended up with what she wanted and finally had a happy life.

The kind of book you want to read slowly- to carefully decode each metaphor, action, lyric, thought- but even after rereading passages and flipping back to connect the dots of context and discourse, you find yourself greedily anticipating what is revealed on the next page and the next...until you reach the last barely a day later. *sigh* the redeeming part of it coming to an end: this one has all the necessary components for a satisfying reread.

Another appearance of Aslan the Lion. Becky suggested that since not all of the books involve that much of Narnia--but they all have a good deal of Aslan--they might be better titled The Chronicles of Aslan. I appreciate seeing Lewis' theology come out through a kid-friendly anthropomorphic lion. Having a tangible character helps to display some of God's attributes in an easier-to-swallow method.

This one is a really good mystery plus a look at a really dysfunctional family. Camille Preaker writes for a paper in Chicago and her boss sends her to investigate two murders in her home town in Missouri. Unfortunately that means she has to stay with her mother, her step father and her sister Amma. Camille has some personal problems you will find that relate to the title of the novel. And the situation is not improved over time. She is sent to investigate the death of two girls, nine months apart, found with their teeth removed. The mystery does pull you in but the character of Camille keeps you involved. I think if you like a good mystery you will like this one, but also if you are a fan of family sagas and family secrets. I give it a thumbs up!

9th&up. While the beginning of this book took a little mental adjusting for a techno-neophyte like me, a couple of pages in- when the action went crack-happy in a hurry- I was hooked. I quickly got into the story and couldn't put it down. The stream of google, wikipedia and x-bot references that felt almost like ads was a bit irritating, but I actually liked the way Doctorow wove in mini-lectures about different technological tricks and devices. Guaranteed to (rightfully?) make you quite paranoid about the path our world is taking. Think an updated version of 1984 for the modern teen. References to drugs and sex and a high level of detailed techno-speak make it a read for older teens.
