This is probably the worst book I've ever read. It's the anit-Lolita (my favorite). It's like Carrie Fisher took too many pills and then vomited this book.

This bok is a very interesting new take on the old superhero story; a culture where enhanced individuals are widely accepted, if not very common, and there are numerous powerful villains and supervillains; heroes and superheroes. It was quite a read, and made me think about just about everything. I really powered through this book, finishing in less than 24 hours, which I always do if I really enjoyed it, and I did.

This book had some wildly funny parts.. sarcastic, cynical & self deprecating humor. Good stuff.
So, I was asked to read Progeny and then give my honest thought about the book and how I liked it. I jumped at the idea. I was excited that possibly something I would write about a book could have an impact on if someone read it or not. I told them “bring me the book”. Bring me the book they did. And it was brought to me on a fork lift. 600 plus pages of a book, I asked myself if I knew what I was getting into. I didn’t have an answer. But I knew two things: One, any book that could be used to knock out Professor Plum in the library, was a book that had one strike in my opinion, and two, that I could use said book in place of my dumbbells for working out. All that aside though, I picked up the book and took a journey into a land that from page one had me captured. I dove into a world that was well created, immensely planned out and describe in almost Tolkien fashion. In short, a new planet had been created in my solar system and I was there discovering it for the first time and I was enraptured with the beauty and time the author had put into it. The first strike had been erased and it was as if the slate hadn’t been clean, but was born of immaculate conception. Then something else happened. I was bonded with the characters. I cared what happened to them. I wanted to know what they would do next, how they would make it to their next leg of the tale, and who planned to help them on their way. Very much an important part of books for me, this kept me reading this monstrous tale. The story flowed very well, few slow spots to me, and when it did become a bit slow it was only for a moment and needed. The plot was well written though somewhat able to be figured out and nothing much left me going “I didn’t see that coming!!!”. Though not all books need to have twist in them, this in no way took away from the book, but actually made it easier to read and made the pages fly by instead of drag on. The only thing that really bothered me in this book was the length. The fact that you read almost 700 pages only to find out that the story doesn’t end there, kind of makes me mad. More in the fact that I just spent all this time reading and I don’t have any closure, but hey, it’s why we read right? For that next book. All in all, I give this book a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The lightning thief was a good book. The author of the book is Rick Riordan. I kind of like this guy's reading because it had a lot of good action and it really caught your attention. But it also had its bad moments. If you don't have a general idea about Greek mythology, you will be confused about who the characters are and why they do what they do. The author also doesn't do a very good job at keeping the action in some scenes. In one example when Percy was fighting Aries, (god of war) percy stabs him in the heel and you can tell Aries is going to rape Percy but then is says something stopped him. To most of the action lovers, this wasn't a good part of the book. You may think that you can't have the entire book filled from cover to cover with action but I disagree because how do you think the expendables worked. But all in all this book is really good for learning about Greek mythology and to entertain your self for about a couple of days (depending on your skill level). If this book was rated on a scale from one to ten, i would give it a seven point five.

This was such a marvelously fun book to read. Though it took me a while to get used to Dumas' narrative cadence, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the story. Dumas created a fantastic friendship between the musketeers, and D'Artagnan's character was one of my favorites in literature. I also don't think there is a more evil woman in literature than Milady/Lady Clark. My overall view of the book almost depended on her comeuppance, which she received in full. I was actually sad when I finished this book last night, and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good story where the good guys (almost) always win.

This is the period of history I focused on in undergrad, so I loved the idea of this setting. But I found at least a third of the historical detail and setting of the differing religious opinions inelegantly included, almost as if the author said "Oh and by the way, did you know that a big part of church reform was actually about political power? Did you know that wicked men in government did whatever they wanted to maintain their own status and used religion as a cloak? Betcha didn't know that, did ya?" If I didn't know anything about this time and place, I might not have noticed, but parts of this felt like history for 7-year-olds. But overall I enjoyed the setting; I don't know if the descriptions of monastic life were accurate, but they were very engaging. I stayed up past a sensible bedtime several nights reading this. Also, I must ask: as someone who has spent most of her life in the middle of North America, it's a little hard to imagine that southern England could be quite as cold as the author constantly says. I realize that in 1530whatever people didn't have gortex down parkas, but honestly. Yes, the wind and snow helped set the mood and isolate the action, but the references to weather got very tiresome.
