Not too shabby. Didn't end where I expected but knowing there are 3 I'm assuming the next will pick up where this one stopped. Still had I read this one without that knowledge or when they were originally released? I'd have been annoyed.

Not even the 10+ years I spent adoring Billy Corgan could save me from having a poor opinion of this book. It mostly reads like bad high school poetry that he wrote with a thesaurus next to his desk.

The subject known as “urban fantasy” has grown to become its very own strong and prominent genre in fantasy, and yet there are still many people who have yet to read an urban fantasy book, or an urban fantasy story for that matter. And where are said readers supposed to start with the glut of urban fantasy currently out, along with the many more works being published? An anthology is a good place to start; this particular anthology – Naked City – is a great one. With so many different authors writing urban fantasy, it’s hard to decide on which one to like and read. Naked City makes that easy for the reader in offering twenty stories by different authors to get interested in and choose from. The book kicks off with another great romping ride courtesy of Jim Butcher, and this time Harry Dresden is on the case of the Chicago Cubs curse. Naomi Novik’s entertaining tale, “Priced to Sell,” is about vampires buying real estate in Manhattan. Patricia Brigg’s “Fairy Gifts” features a vampire called home to save those who freed him from a curse. Melissa Marr’s “Guns for the Dead” is the story of a dead man trying to get by in the afterlife, who keeps falling into trouble. In the introduction, popular and prolific editor Ellen Datlow talks about the important of place in Naked City, with most of the stories featuring an important location as their focus point. Readers will learn lots about various towns across America in Naked City, as well as some other places not found on any known map. Originally written on September 21, 2011 ©Alex C. Telander. Read this when I was a kid. Finally just looked it up, because I remember the story so well. I thought it was a great book (possibly 5 stars? - been thinking about doing a re-read) and very original.

man, e. lockhart is just like my new fighting technique: unstoppable. the third ruby oliver book did not disappoint and i love that she doesn't go in for neat, tidy endings.

OK serial killer novel about a woman who is trying to escape from her ex-husband, who is on death row for murder. Suspenseful, but nothing special.

As is typical for me, I fell for the cold guy. Together with the 4th book, Mine to Possess (awful title) it's my favorite in the Psy-Changeling series. No, Kiss of Snow isn't. Whoo! ;b Most people love the book because of the hero, Judd. He's Psy, unemotional, cold and distant. If a warm person is nice to you, you're happy. But if someone like Judd, a Psy, a killer even, is, it makes you feel special. When a 'hard' person touches you gently, you can't stop feeling like you're da Shit. I guess some women also like idea of.. Helping a person overcome his or her past. Helping them move on, change. They fall for what a person might be. They fall for the potential, for the past, but not for what the person is. I don't like the whole thing, but it makes sense. Anyway, this is the reason why Judd's "mate" is Brenna and not us.. She isn't really interested in his past or in what he might become in the future. Of course she cares about him and she also wants to know everything about him, but to her it doesn't matter. She's in love with the man he is right now. Brenna's a wolf, grew up with the whole pack and is used to feel loved, to touch, to live and love back. (With brothers like Drew and Riley.. *sigh*) After what happened in the first book (she's been tortured by Enrique) she needs "counseling" with Sascha and often enough Judd's with her, giving her some of his mental strenght. I think this novel, like many of Nalini Singh's is very well written and the world building is amazing. I didn't like the first two books and almost didn't read the third, then thought, I should give it a try and I am very happy I did, since not only the romance-part is good, but the world's explored more. However, the books tend to be too happy-ended. Sometimes too melodramatic, sometimes too.. just too much. It's what most readers of paranormal romance seem to like, but I read 20+ books a month and it doesn't appeal to me anymore, if it ever did. The plot's okay enough. ;) There are some wolves found dead and it seems that someone, maybe someone living in the den and most likely their murderer, tries to kill Brenna for unknown reasons. I didn't really care about the sexual content, but if I recall correctly, there were about two or three semi-graphic or graphic sexscenes. You don't need to read the series in the correct reading-order, although I did and think it's the best. You'd be better off lending the first two books and buying this one, though. *wink*

I read this on a rec from an online friend The Fae are a part of the book so that was another reason I decided to give it a try. It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't a great book either. I did like the author's take on the Fae, there origins and all that fun stuff. In fact I found her take on it really interesting and different. I just didn't really like the main character. It was almost as if the author was trying to make a Fae Slayer mimicked after Buffy. Oh well, it was decent enough which means I will try to read the next book in the series at the very least.

The first time I read this book back in Frosh HS English I hated it, couldn't have cared less and found it tedious. My mother and sister breathing down my neck sharing their strong feelings for the book ("the best ever") did not help. Now, 10 years later, I did in fact love this book. Great characters, facinating historic setting, luv, and of course mass murder.

I found this to be almost completely unreadable. I'm not afraid of a little bit on non-linear narrative but this was unbelievably pretentiously written. (And not particularly well written, either.)
