I will note that the version I read matched the cover photo here and was called Dog Talk, not Heart of a Dog. Even though the author works mostly with police dogs--which I found fascinating to read about--and this is not a dog training manual, I was still able to pick up a few tips for working with our sometimes-frustrating little dog.

Bourdain is funny and snarky and holds nothing back. I gobbled this book up mainly because of everything it revealed about the restaurant business. A good read, entertaining, but probably not a book I'll revisit.

This book perfectly illustrates the point that television characters are usually nothing like the actors that portray them. Too much God, not enough Bradys. Oh, and really not enough proofreading!!!

3.5-4 stars. This is a novel where what you see is what you get. While being a enjoyable read and well written, it holds no real surprises following a fairly predictable path all the way to its conclusion. I'm hesitant to give a full 4 stars simply due to its predictable nature. If you're after a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat story, then you won't find it here. On the other hand, if you're after a novel that will keep you happily entertained for a few hours after a tiring, stressful week, then this novel is definitely worth a look.

A cute little collection of short stories set in the Harry Potter universe, with additional, rather sly, 'commentary' from one Albus Dumbledore. The stories are all quite light, whimsical little things that fit in quite well with the rest of the series (they're referenced in Deathly Hallows) but don't add particularly much to it. There were what seemed to be a couple of jabs at Beatrix Potter in some of the Dumbledore commentary, though, which seemed... odd. Best for younger Potter fans, or for completists.

** spoiler alert ** Short read, nicely paced. An inventive look at how colonization of space might begin. 4 handpicked couples set off on a trip to what they think is a star with a planet, only to discover along the way that they are the unwitting subjects of an experiment, and no such planet exists. The astronauts and eventually their children, With limited access to Earth resources, expand their minds in ways both planned (traditional science) and unplanned (Eastern mysticism) by those who sent them. The explorers return to their home planet to find it devastated by political turmoil (some of which began before they left) and the effects of their own act of vengeance against their betrayers.

First up, I read this at a friend's sleepover, six in the morning. Sun streaming through the window, she was snoring, I didn't dare wake her up. So I grabbed a book and read. First up--we get it, Miley. You want to look like a perfect Disney Christian. But girl, you do a lot of risque stuff and I honestly struggle to believe that you really believe in what you preach. I really struggled with the religious parts simply because they seemed so fake and staged. There were a few nicely written parts, about how she used her left hand for creating and her right for caring, or something. And then I saw it was one of those co-written books which really frustrate me. If you can't write good material on your own, don't try and publish a book. Go practice, write rubbish first drafts, hone your skills. But don't make it look like you wrote a memoir, and then it turns out another woman wrote most of it. This is not a collaboration. It's just lazy. She also went on and on about how terrible school was. This happens a lot in famous people's memoirs. You don't have to be a drama queen or make everything seem like the end of the world. The moments in books that show strength and courage are the powerful ones. Basically, it felt like a staged book, a cry for sympathy and people to forget the stupid stuff she did {I have no problem with people doing stupid stuff, just hypocriteS}, an attempt to look perfect.

One of my favorite books. This is a great book for those who enjoy collections and old stories. One small warning is that some of the words are old English. My favorite story is "The First Letter".

This was the first one of the series that I read- i accidentally picked up #2, not realizing, but it didn't matter- they are well written enough that you can pick up any of the series and you will completely understand what is going on. Such fun delightful reads. I REALLY like the fact that the author clearly planned out this series BEFORE writing them. I love it!
