Probably one of the most incredible books I have ever read. I shamefully, know very little about WWII. This account of one man's journey from Olympean Athlete to P.O.W. is both gut wrenching and heart-warming. It is not for the weak of heart, I think I gasped and grimaced more during this book than any other. I laughed and I cried. But it's a story that I'm glad was told. Laura Hillenbrand (author of Seabuscuit) did an amazing job and cites acknowledgements to literally hundreds of sources who provided her with stories and research during her writing. This is non-fiction that is too unbelievable to be true. It grabs you in the preface and never lets you go. It reads like a novel. Please run to the computer, store or library to get yourself a copy of this amazing book. You won't be sorry you did.

We have warned the Islamic terroists that any chemical, biological or nuclear attack on any American city will result in the automatic launch of scores of nuclear missles at Islamic cities and sites. A group of right-wing ultra Conservatists have decided to take matters into their own hands to wipe out the entire Muslim world by sacrificing two American cities. They have the suitcase size bombs already in position and we have only 48 hours to stop them. Scary stuff and maybe a little to close to non-fiction.

Excellent, beautiful novel. This book is as much about South Africa and the roots of Apartheid as it as a fantastic girl coming of age story. I'll take this over Catcher In the Rye any day. I highly recommend!
