Sadly I read this book on the recommendation of a good friend. It was a good story with great plot, but if you want to read it, then watch out. It's full of smutty grossness that pops out of seemingly nowhere. And sadly it never seemed to have anything to with the plot and didn't progress the story at all. Also ever smutty thing was described in the utmost detail as if I needed to know that. Reading this book is one of the main reasons that I joined this site. I don't want to read books like this but sadly best sellers are all that anyone ever recommends and they rarely have any redeeming qualities.

A pretty good review of how mothers and daughters communicate. (Only the title is pointed via Mother TO daughter and my daughter was much more likely to say that to me than I was to her!). I did enjoy the read.

It wasn't particularly good.. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a book that's been deemed a 'classic' for some reason. The subject area is definitely something I am interested in, but I just found the story dull.

Even though this book is about a takeover at the end of the 80s, it is still relevant today. I think it shows the beginning of the culture on Wall St and in executive firms that led to where we are now. The book itself is very well written and I found it difficult to put down at times since I just wanted to know what happened next. I had no knowledge about this takeover sage prior to reading the book, which added an extra dimension and made reading it similar to reading a book of fiction.

Once I got past the totally archaic language, I really loved this! It was so different from the movie (which I like for a different reason - sigh!) I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in a different way, and learning about some of the concepts that Cooper wrote about, including the mixed race heritage of Cora, and the nobility of the native Americans. I'm glad that I read this book, and didn't rely on the Hollywood version to tell the story! Both are fun, but this one was incredibly insightful and interesting! I LOVE that the classics are free on Kindle! I don't know that I'd recommend this to people who are happy with the other version, played so well by Daniel Day Lewis. Maybe only to those who know that it isn't the "real" story, and those who want to know what the author actually intended.
