This book promises to "shock" - but really.... if anyone has actually READ the Bible, there's nothing at all shocking about what's in here. What did shock me was the lack of any historical perspective or supporting documentation for the author's conclusions about such things as "Jesus didn't REALLY die on a Friday and rise on a Sunday" (has he read ANY early Christian authors? If they were within one generation of Christ, and knew the people who were THERE, and THEY say he died on a Friday and rose on a Sunday, then... I believe them, even if there work isn't part of the canon of the Bible) or "we don't really go to heaven when we die". I feel like this is a case of of "sola scriptura" gone awry.... how anyone can interpret the Bible any way they wish when they view it in a vacuum, without taking into account 2000 years of history, and corroborating sources. Plus some of those conclusions lack any authority - he is making theological statements without BEING any sort of theologian at all . Other chapters are just interesting little tidbits. Overall, I was rather disappointed in this book.

Thought it was a good 'prequel' to Glass Castle. Not quite as good as the original, but certainly gave some insight into the bizarre behavior of the parents. Totally recommend this book. A very easy read.

I've read this book a few times over a few years and have decided that it isn't really worthwhile, not for me. The book is like a fortune teller who speaks of generalities and so broadly the text means anything and nothing. I have read different translations and in all the artwork is wonderful, simple. The messages are not always. In the better translations there is more of a sense of the poetic. To purchase this book you should definitely look for one of the more poetic versions.

Not just about projects that can be completed in a couple days, Weekend sewing is all about a relaxed attitude, as well. Nice variety of projects for home, clothing and kids. Really nice illustrations.

Martin does a bad job of splitting up his books. At least in the Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan (or whoever the new author is) provides exposition to help you fill in the blanks in your memory. Martin isn't so kind. I do respect Martin's willingness to kill off the most liked characters, but I wish he wouldn't do it with such obnoxious cliffhangers -- particularly given his record of not publishing a book for around a decade. A good climax is important! But you need for there to be resolutions before your audience forgets what actually happened in the damned piece of literature. I think a fundamental problem with these books is that there are too many main characters -- too many threads for a normal human to track. The same story could be woven with far fewer. I found myself skimming during the sections where the narration revolved around supporting characters in hopes of the very rare chapter on the Stark children (other than Jon Snow of course). I grow increasingly frustrated with Game of Thrones.

This book was completely mediocre. I was unable to invest in any of the characters - I just really didn't care what happened to any of them. I thought the literary device of interspersing (what essentially amount to short stories) in between the main chapters of the book was odd and more than a little self-indulgent on the writer's part- I didn't think they added anything to the quality or depth of the novel. Didn't really care for this one - would not recommend unless you have no other options.

this book has abbey's charecteristically misogynist and slightly racist views in it, but past those it's a really good read about eco-action. the book gives a good historical starting off point for the early earth first! movement. it is not quite as good as the sequel, hayduke lives!, mainly due to the length, but it is action packed and quite steamy at times.
