Needed a break after reading this and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo back to back before I can attempt the third. Interesting characters.

This is the most enjoyment a person can ever get from punctuation.

Another awesome spy-historical romance, all code names and velvet whispers and ruthless secrets. This book takes place in post-revolutionary France, run by Robspierre, a very bloody time; the hero and heroine are each involved in their own separate dangerous capers. They aren't natural allies, and each pretend to be other than who they are, and are thrown together on a dangerous road trip to Paris. Wow, I love the sly way it intersects with real history. Robespierre is actually a minor character in this. Joanna Bourne! I am so in awe she did that. My second favorite of her books, just a hair behind the Spymaster's Lady. Highly recommended.

This is the last book in the series of The Goose Girl. Razo is quite a charming, bumbling, easy-to-love protagonist. And thankfully, this book swings back to the fabulous, fun art of language that The Goose Girl protrayed. I truly enjoyed the apt descriptions that cirled around Razo and his actions. The plot was nicely complex, and it swooped and turned and flowed at a fine pace. Very fun reading...

Hands down, easily, and undeniably one of my favorite books. Drags a tiny bit in the middle, but not enough to take away from the richness of the characters. READ IT!

This is probably the best of Heyer's Regency romances, although I'm not an expert. (I'm, um, not that much of a romance fan. I actually prefer her mystery stories.) In some ways, it's very Heyer - the strangely effete hero, the standard dialog style, the rampant and seriously off-putting (thought period appropriate, or at least acceptable) prejudices and stereotypes, all that. In other ways, this one transcends Heyer's usual form; the heroine is much more fun than usual, and so is the plot. This is the only keeper I've found of her romances.

I bought this book because it was set in Sunset Park Brooklyn and because the author lives in Brooklyn. I enjoyed this book because of the unforgettable characters who center around the main character Miles Heller. And for the themes of baseball and the movie "The Best Years of Our Lives" joins them all together.

I like the take of this convert to Catholicism and think the book is well-researched, even with its ambitious scope. The chapter on clericalism is especially on-target. I just don't feel the same hopefulness that David Gibson does. And, it might have something to do with me being a cradle Catholic -- and female. I don't see any sharing of power by the hierarchy; I see retrenching. I agree the church is at a crossroads. But I think the church's defensiveness makes it more likely it will ponder and nag itself into irrelevance than undergo a revolution "from below."
