Hated it the first time I read it...don't know why. I got to about page 2 before I quit. This time around, I was a bit more forgiving. By the time I got to about page 50, I was hooked! Finally I understood what everyone was raving about. Ridley Pearson is one of my favorite authors, so this was nice to read. READ THIS BOOK!

An exciting, well-paced post-apocalypse novel, that I found legitimately scary. But also a bit alienating. And honestly people, I don't care that it's a trilogy, you still have to have an ending that feels like an ending, even if not everything is resolved.

This book starts off all easy breezy, but this is not what you get from a book with a Frank McCourt recommendation on the back. I actually almost scoffed when I read the Frank McCourt quote, but I'm glad I stuck with it. This book is sweet and heartbreaking and my eyes welled up a few times as I willed myself to look away from the page while on the stairclimber at the gym. Yup, it's a good read.

Slightly overrated I have to say. The philosophy is in fact very basic, but because it is so basic, it is also so easy to grasp and utilise in the variety of military strategies which this Chinese philosopher recommends. It does its job best to provide philosophy as a plane for practical application, rather than most of Western philosophy which only makes simple things harder to understand, and for that reason, I recommend this book. However, like any philosophy which focuses too much on self, it lacks the divine altruism which can benefit us for a true change in the human soul, but I doubt Sun Tzu was aiming for that when he wrote his Art of War, and for that reason, he does well to stick to the titular topic.
