This book was very difficult to read and I finally gave up about halfway through. Wallace's style of writing and subject matter was just too weird for me. It makes me think I must be a bonehead, because this book was on the National Bestseller list so a lot of people must have liked it. He was a little too deep at times, and some of his short stories went on and on with endless whining. It was torture to read.

Tiger's Quest was outstanding! Read it twice :) I was on the edge of every emotion and back. Laughed, cried, laughed and cried some more. I read it a second time because I was not sure about something that happened towards the end, but re-reading helped me figure it out. Again, I loved the interweining of history and religion as a backdrop for uncovering the second part of the prophecy. The love story part was sweet, emotional, heartbreaking, passionate. Love, love, love the poems and famous quotes. All I can say to Kelsey is "keep the faith". Cannot wait to read next installment. Houck's writing is thoughtful, well planned out, well written. Each book gives you enough to know the story. I like that.

A book for a reading group does give one the opportunity to read things one wouldn't necessarily choose for oneself. Such is the present case. Many have found this book wonderful, the writing splendid, and the topics introduced important and compelling. I do not share this view. I found the book slow going, sentimental at times and wishy-washy at others. Some characters were believable, but didn't get my sympathy. Other characters were just not real (the genius little sister for one). The big questions had no answers. Some may say that that's life. There are no answers. But I am uncomfortable with such relativism and believe it more cowardice on the author's part not to impart a clear point of view than artistry, allowing his creation to wallow in moral and spritualistic ambiguity. Oh, well.

Um, I liked it. It was kind of a strange story, but it was good. It was also very quick, I listened to it, and I think it was only like 2 hrs long. It held my attention well.

As much as I got caught in it, and as much as I like Clary and Jace, if less than half way in you didn't know how this book ended you need to start exercising your brain, remember, practice makes perfect. The big revelation scene was painful, and not in a good way. The idiocy of all three characters involved was unexcusable and unexpected, but most of all, had I had bigger expectations for the book, it would had enraged me towards the author for betraying her characters to create some sort of feeling of anticipation in something that the Clary and Jace she showed us the rest of the book would had figured out in a second.
