I found this book to be a little too much time spent going over strategic battle formations. Since I was unfamiliar with the Valkyrie conspiracy (other then knowing there was a bad movie with Tom Cruise made a few years ago), this book did little to go over the main plots of the assasination attempt. Easy reading, just a little disappointing.

Original rating 2 stars Not sure why I only gave this one 2 stars the first time around. Harry is definitely super annoying and Umbridge is the worst, but so many things happen in this one. Ginny gets a personality. We get the first glimpses of bad-ass Neville. Maybe it's just because I know where it's all going but so much better this time around.

I just couldn't get into this book. It was so slow-moving and the descriptions of the torture just too horrific. It's too bad because it sounded like it would be right up my alley.

I had high expectations from this author - everyone says how John Grisham's writing is amazing, and since he had a young adult series, I decided to pick it up. It was nothing special, but maybe I shouldn't have expected anything special in the first place. This was a four star book, I suppose, but this author could've achieved five star from what I hear. High expectations always set up for a great downfall. I do think his storytelling skills are good. He sets up the setting well, and introduces the characters naturally. We learn more about them at the right time, and we always know the necessary knowledge when we need it. Also, it's not all a huge paragraph before the character - little tidbits are placed in natural and appropriate times. He writes well, I guess, but it's more of an entertainment reading style. Which didn't work out well, since his story was the problem. It was obvious what was going to happen the entire time. No dramatic or genius interventions - nothing really creative. Theo is thirteen years old (a fact which is stressed multiple times), and can't do much. We know that, but usually the character can get around this fact to accomplish something. Theo doesn't - he keeps by his limits. It's all fine and dandy for a nice moral, but we want something interesting to read! The ending is a bit of a let down. Instead of a climax, we only get an anticlimax. It builds up for a good ending, then nothing. This is a good book to start with if you want to ease into the lawyer adventures, since it does explain a lot about the judicial system. For those out there who've read a great many lawyer books, don't try this one. It's not really that worth it.

I really liked the brief interviews (especially the last one)and wished there were more. The other short stories just didn't do it for me because they seemed a bit too incomplete.

I really like Gabriel Garcia Marquez. There is something about the way in which he writes which, in the three books I've read by him (One hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Memories of My Melancholy Whores), take me away. I feel, after having read them, that I've been on some sort of emotional transformation and feel a sense of being cleansed. Anyway, he's a powerful writer.

This was a barely acceptable fantasy-type historical romance. The characters were kind of predictable (especially for someone who has read so many fantastical/paranormal romances). It did offer some new notions of the celtic fairies, which was interesting, but overall it just wasn't enough to truly grab me. I'll tell you what did grab me, though... and not in a good way. The man on the cover of this book is UGLY! Everytime my husband saw me reading it, he would say "How can you read a romance book with THAT on cover??" LOL

Nihayet bu hafta okumadan önce kitap hakkında çok şey duymuştum, ama insanların neden bu kadar çok konuştuklarını ya da neyi sevdiklerini hatırlayamadım. Şimdi anladım ki hikaye çok kişisel ve duygusal olduğu için herkesle çok farklı konuşuyor. Suçluluk, pişmanlık ve kurtuluşu ortaya çıkardığı için yazarın dürüstlüğünü takdir ediyorum.
