this is the first of gaitskill's writing I've ventured into but her writing and choice of words and usage really stirred something in me and seemed to ring so true. how disconnected everyone is from one another, reminiscing the past, how we all have some kind of darker side. great collection of short stories that's hard to put down.

I've been craving a good gothic since Susanna Kearsley stopped writing hers awhile back so someone recommended that I read Cruisie’s latest. I like Cruisie, she generally writes nice light humorous comfort reads. Unfortunately, I don’t think the two styles mix. I think as a gothic alone it would have been okay but she did try to add in her quirky characters and like oil and water the two just didn’t mix. For it to have been a really good gothic she needed to amp up the atmosphere of the creepy house and perhaps made the housekeeper a little more sinister. The kids were plenty creepy. For it to have been more like her romantic novels she could have lost the gothic factor and just had Andi care for the kids though we then would have lost the two characters I liked the most, Isolode and Dennis. Other reviewers have also already mentioned the curious flatness of North, our hero. I never could figure out why Andi was attracted to him in the first place. Maybe a little more flashback showing him as being something other than a dour workaholic would have helped. Still less than excellent Crusie is stil better than a whole lot of other stuff that's out there....

This book was about a girl named Lila. She has an argument with her father and decides to leave but her plane gets in into a crash while shes stuck inside a pod. her father goes out to find her and her plane is somewhere near the island in the ocean. The father and couple of other people help him while their are be other people on this island and are trying to kill them. All this happens while Lila is running out of air I like the book because i didn't know what happened next and they had different settings while while Lila could die, and her family and helpers are in danger. Frank E Paretti wrote this book and a series that goes along with this book. this genre is action and realistic fiction because these things to happen in the book could be real too i would like to read other of Frank E. Peretti's adventurous books. Date i started: august 10

Ok, I had a hard time deciding what to give this one. 4? 4.5? 5? I have a hang up about giving books that aren't ~masterpieces~ a five star rating. There are books like Jane Eyre and Shakespeare's plays, etc. I'm an English major, this nerdy stuff happens. But in the end, I decided that a tremendously well written novel that didn't do all that pandering to the audience bullshit OR that "I'm going to satisfy myself with this book" asswipery DESERVED a five. Becca Fitzpatick has left tremendously large shoes for herself to fill... and I think she'll be able to do it. Oh, and Patch is an understated DREAM. Just what you want from a strong man in a book. Don't do that overboard BS, it's not necessary. Just be strong and confident.
