I thought this was a book that made you think. It was a nice quick read, but it had interesting detail and characters. It reminded me of the hunger games. I'm in the queue for the next one - number 826 at the library!

This might've been good, but the fact is that unless you're into bridge--and how many kids do you know that are into bridge--it's boring to read about bridge. The kids who will pick this up on the basis of it being by the author of Holes will quickly toss it back down.

I read this for the first time in French class in its original vernacular. What a splendid book. I read it a second time in English and I must say that though a bit more difficult to read, the French version is perfection. However, for those who do not read French pick up the translation because it is one of the most amazing childrens books ever written. The Petit Prince will make you laugh and cry, but more importantly it will make you critcally examine different aspects of society and yourself. It is a treat to read.

Just had a British guy say to me the other day, "Can't say fairer than that!", and I actually knew what he meant after reading this book. I liked this better than On Beauty; On Beauty also focused on the intricacies of two families, which was great, but I enjoyed the complexity of this novel tying in a third family and more history/politics. It definitely engaged me more than On Beauty, which I read first. I noticed a lot of similarities between character types- the socially awkward middle-aged British man, as well as a strong-minded, but insecure, black female coming of age. I hope Zadie avoids repeating character types in future books, but perhaps one of her strength's is in how well she depicts the psychology of the characters she knows best. Overall, the climax and ending in this book was much more satisfying than the later book. My only substantial criticism is that it made me overly conscientious about my dental hygiene, to the point where I felt the urge to use Crest Whitening strips just to make it through a long passage.

Oh.. this series by Franklyn W. Dixon, many a time, left me wishing I had the entire series with me. Unfortunately, they were a hard find and every new mystery book I found thrilled me to the core. I wish they could republish this entire series along with the Clue brother series. Well, a girl got to wish for something :) Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy reading these little mysteries. Surprisingly, even after I read a lot of grown-up mystery thrillers, my fondness for these kid-adventures never stopped. Even now, on a cold night, these warm my thoughts !! :)
