The first couple of hundred pages were a pleasure to read. I think he should have stopped kept to telling Martin's stoy and skipped Jaspers. Jasper's story seemed like quite a lot of effort just to make the point of, like father, like son. I loved Toltz's style. His insights were delightful and funny. I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time finishing it.

Learned of this from Pollan's New Yorker article. Book a bit heavy on the science of corn in the first section, but got steadily better as it progressed, and damned if I don't find myself noticing how corn shows up in everything these days... so I guess it sunk in, even while it was my least favorite part of the book.

Great story! Loved it when I was a kid. Can't get through the prose anymore, though.

This book is aimed towards psychology professionals. However, if you are looking for some good self-exploration, this book is intriguing. It takes a little while to get the flow of it. I found myself thinking, "Is the clinician trying to coax out multiple personality disorder?" What it is really about is giving your various traits a voice and imagining what they would say to you. Definitely thought-provoking.

I saw the first 5 episodes of the anime before checking out this manga. The anime is gorgeous, so I was a little surprised by how awkward the art in the manga is by comparison. I'm used to the dynamic fight scenes of Naruto and Bleach, where the art is such that you can see explosive movement in all the stills. Even though Claymore has tons of fighting, there's something about the way the stances are drawn that doesn't really convey power. Still, this is one of the few mangas I've seen where the central warrior is a female. It was really refreshing. Claire is serious and complex--no annoying fanservice even though she's gorgeous. And even though the youma-hunting theme isn't all that original, it does develop into some good stuff in a few volumes. It's an unremarkable beginning, but overall this is a really good manga.

seriously, i've been reading this book forever. no, really. it's alright, but i don't think it's as profound as everyone else seems to think. just read your Bible, and you can see where he's coming from. morley also seems a little pious and judgemental sometimes, which i find annoying.

The plot didn't develop too much- typical continuation of a series, although it's slightly better than Twilight- which felt like it was just dragging on and on and on. The story was pretty predictable- no surprises or anything- but the entire idea of it was still pretty good, and Brewer's writing style was still nice, so... 3 stars. :]
