One of my favorite books. So many twists and turns of fate determined by characters with "baggage" and agendas, played out through seemingly coincidence. I believe the reader has to read through the Dickensian language the first time. Then reread it to really enjoy it.

I looked down in while I was reading the end of the book and noticed I was 99% done. How is that possible? There are a million questions to wrap up? And then I reached the cliffhanger. AAAAAAA! Now I have to wait for the next book. While Archer is a delectable warlock...I'm still in Cal's corner. He unconditionally saves the day and he's still mysterious. My bet is in the end, Sophie will end up with him.

This book is hilarious! But what made it even more enjoyable is that I actually found karaoke versions of the song and sang the zombie versions of them as I read the book. OMG I laughed so hard while singing "The Zombie Christmas Song" to "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire".......with a start like: Fresh brains roasting on an open fire Zombies chewing off your nose LOL! But some of the titles were amazing: "We Three Spleens", "Have Yourself a Medulla Oblongata","Deck the Halls with Parts of Wally", and "Eat a Toe" (instead of Let It Snow) XD Fantastic! But also, a fun surprising that Christopher Moore, the greatest writer of all time, did the introduction! Woot!

there's a point in life when you're finally faced with the mortality of your parents...reading this book coincided with that exact moment of realization... heartbreaking. illuminating. this book is everything.

I've always loved the movie The Ninth Gate, so when I saw this in a used book store in Chicago I went ahead and picked it up. I really liked it in a lot of ways, I liked Corso's character and there were some great quotable passages, but the changes in the story of the movie are SO MUCH better and more interesting than in the book, particularly the ending.

I learned from this book that Denis Johnson can indeed write a novel every bit as good as his short story collection, Jesus' Son. It's about a guy living in Provincetown, MA during the offseason, working part-time as a radio dj, part-time for a private investigator. Sounds like it would be over the top, but people who have read Jesus' Son know DJ is more of a master of hallucinatory, poetic prose.

This is the book on which 'The Hemingway Book Club of Kosovo' was based. She used this book to teach English and so I had to read it. It was excellent..of the same caliber as To Kill A Mockingbird. A classic.

It was OK....my main complaint was that I found the characters to be difficult to relate to and unlikable. I felt like the negative/cynical aspects of the characters were developed well throughout the story but they didn't show much of their "softer" sides...until the ending, which was highly improbable and didn't seem to fit the characters at all. I don't know that I'd recommend this book to too many people.

This book was a nice introduction to contemporary novels, the story of Anthony Kiedis and his life path. Many people find the writing to be fairly basic and possibly badly written I agree, to some extent. The book, written by a ghost writer captured the essence of how he would write or tell his story and I didn't think it detracted from the picture that was painted of his chilhood and fame. I really enjoyed it taking me back to my childhood and compelling me to buy Blood Sugar Sex Magic (which I only ever owned on tape) with my few dollars I had as I was travelling around the world at the time.
