This series still has me completely hooked. It's SUPERdark now, though. In every way. (view spoiler) There's still some writing that bugged me a bit (a phrase about someone being drawn to someone else like metal shavings to a magnet had me laughing out loud), but the characters and plot and setting of this way override this. One more! Check out the A.V. Club's review.

It took me a little too long to finish this book. The truth is this was the last enjoyable Percy Jackson book I've read so far. The pace was too slow for my taste [I guess I grew used to the thrill of the previous three], and I got bored easily. In this installment, Percy and his crowd are fighting the "Battle of the Labyrinth" to prevent Cronus from rising to power. But Cronus has also an army of his own, so it's basically a Cronus recruits vs Percy and his Pals fight. The fighting reminded me a lot of the Harry Potter series, Cronus being Voldemort and Percy as Harry. They're very similar, at least in this book. If you get started on it, you may be bored at the beginning, but in the end you'll realize it's absolutely worth the read.

I LOVE the movie!!! It was one of mom's favorites. I still remember the first time I watched the movie with my mom when it was on TV (many, many years ago). I recently bought the book (at half.com) and it is currently in the ever-growing pile by my bedside. Some other movies from that era that my mom considered "must sees" included: "Ben Hur" (currently reading the book), "The Best Years of Our Lives", "El Cid", "How Green Was My Valley" (LOVE this book, too), "Lilies of the Field", "Pride of the Yankees", "Roman Holiday", "The Song of Bernadette", "Spencer's Mountain", "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". There are others, but these are the one's I own and that bring special memories to mind.

Although good enough to keep reading, I found myself looking forward to the next book. I've been told that in the movie the beast is similar to the tattooed youth on the cover of the book that I read, and I think I would have preferred a fully modern version of the classic tale . . .

Hot!! I think this, so far, is my favorite of the Shadowlands series. Cullen was a favorite of mine in the previous books and I was hoping that his book would do him justice and it delivered. I enjoyed the way he changed from a "never have a relationship with a sub" type of Dom to really coming to care for Andrea. The book also gives good background for both Cullen and Andrea so you had an understanding of her need for obsessive independence and his need to be able to know she knows when to ask for help. I never would have thought that I would like books as spicy as this series, and believe me, it is sizzling. However, since half of the time I can't visualize what they are describing anyway, I guess it doesn't matter LOL!! I even had to google a couple of things. I don't think I have ever had to put a book down and run out of the room because of embarassment (as if anyone else knows what I am reading). If you are faint of heart, DO NOT READ THIS SERIES, however, if you are looking for something that is akin to porn in words with a storyline, this series and this book is for you. I do not recommend reading them out of order though, because, although it can stand alone, it's good to know the background of some of the other characters mentioned, especially Master Z. Overall, this is a book I would lend only to my closest friend and definitely not the ladies Church group (shoot, not even to casual friends and co-workers).
If you left a frappuccino of manga, graffiti, Chinese food, and NES-style video games in the microwave for about 4 hours, this might be what you scraped out when you remembered it later. This is like the comics equivalent of a Michael Bay movie - when there is action, there is so much action that it is almost impossible to tell what is actually going on. So much action that it sometimes literally doesn't fit on the page (since there are places where dialog gets squished off the edges). This is all both good and bad - the artwork is super dynamic and the book's overall pretty fun to read, but when there's a big 2-page spread of some new move that Sharknife is using, with a description of what it is and how it works, it'd be nice to be able to figure out what the hell is happening. This is presented in the standard US magna-style trade - small format, black & white. Personally, I think that a larger page and some color might help to make the action a little more decipherable, but it would take away a bit from the overall presentation, I guess. Still, it doesn't really matter - it's a super entertaining read, and the content isn't so deep that a little confusion really affects the experience or the enjoyment of it. A big super something-or-other eats cookies and fights monsters that want to eat Chinese food. Anything beyond that I think is pretty much just frills.
