Inspiring. So many things I want to try. I draw better (what?!) which wasn't even really an intention when I started, but the thing about it being a matter of "seeing" rather than how well your hands work really changed the way I think about it. I made my first mind-map, and I think I'll try the multiple virtual desktop thing. Helpful suggestions for avoiding interruptions, and inspiration to both become an expert in something and to not become complacent about it if/when I get there.

This started out with so much promise - a scholarly witch who doesn't know much about her powers accidentally "unseals" a magical, alchemical book and riles up the "creature world" of demons, vampires & witches. What this book ends up being is a sappy, stupid "romance" that's worse than the worst Twilight book. Our "hero" never truly owns her power and she falls apart whenever her vampire lover decides he doesn't like her anymore. What a waste of a really good story idea!

This was a really good book, I escpecially liked that the author didn't just use alchemy as a cute way to make her female lead more interesting. Alchemy was actually a part of the story itself, this was very very good.

I disagree with the other reviewers' opinions that this book is difficult or requires patience. I guess that's relative to whatever material one is used to reading. It's a beautiful story about a sad woman. It moves along quite gracefully, and the French is kept to little snatches that are pretty common words. Our character even tells you during the story, ouvrir is to open, oublier is to forget.

This book surprised me. I'd heard a lot about it, but a story about a boy on a liferaft with a tiger didn't sound all that interesting to me. I usually prefer books with a lot of human interaction. However, this was really interesting. Very well-written without going over the top in flower-y language and a totally unique story. I kept wanting to find out what happened next and there were moments that were surprisingly hilarious. This would make an excellent book club book.
