There were very few letters exchanged by the two students in this book, which didn't really make for an exciting read - but more importantly, what the girl said at the end, during her report, really missed the mark. She didn't know or learn enough to really have gained anything from the assignment. Overall...a lame book.

Well, y'know, it was a murder mystery. The main character almost got offed herself, after being a suspect. Kind of how murder mystery plot twists go. The main character was one of those people that confused me; I couldn't decide if I wanted to be her or if I hated her. I like the whole though-girl thing, but why does "tough" mean "slutty" so often? Lynch wasn't exactly a slut, but she was slutty, for sure. In the same vein, why does "tough" usually equal "bitchy"? And why is it that when girls are tough, it's a defense mechanism? Can't a lady be tough because that's how she is? While I'm definitely not a tough female, I'd like to be, but I don't want to sleep around or be a total bitch-ass to all my friends. I just kind of want to give off the "don't mess with me". . . thing. Whatever you call it. But all these authors keep typing tough girls as slutty and bitchy, too. In which case, no, I don't want to be tough. (Apologies for my rant.) Despite the clichéd-but-how-do-you-get-around-them murder-mystery-twists and the love-hate relationship I had with our main character, it was a tolerable murder mystery. I read it in less than a week, mostly on the train and at school. I might have checked this out of the library on my own, but I probably wouldn't ever have paid money for it. I may not actively try to pawn it off on anyone, but I won't worry about getting it back if I loan it to a friend.

learned a lot in this book. the best part was Albert Hofmann's personal account of his first trip where the maid suddenly becomes a hideous she-beast. classic.

This book is like The Davinci Code on crack. Its a psychological thriller/mystery/exploration of spiritual history. It is an awesome book that will take you through centuries of secret societies and crazy rituals. A must read.

Really liked it as a business book junkie and Starbucks addict. Though, many might find Howard to be a bit narcissistic. Sparked enough interest for me to now follow this stock...

a nice enough coming-of-age story that was read while i was in a too-similar prep school at a too-similar age for objective literary analysis. that and the fact that i was in 9th grade makes it impossible for me to say anything about this book other than it was not a bad read.

This book was so good. I was very surprised how closely woven Rowlings novel was. Everything fits together like a puzzel, and I must admit I am in awe of her talent. Truth be told- I am sad that I actually finished the series and the world of Hogwarts and magic have come to the end. "Open at the Close"- I have opened my mind and heart to these characters and now it has came to the close. There are a few areas I want to acknowledge in this book. The first is character depth. Rowling's characters are so dimentional. Not one of them are completely perfect, brave, bad.........well maybe not Tom Riddle. Throughout her series she has torn away the layers of every character to reveal how similar, scared, intelligent, loving, jealous....etc. they truely are. Secondly, I was truely amazed how the story continued to twist and turn. I never knew exactly where it was leading me. The last wonderful thing about Rowlings writing is she makes the reader feel like they are part of the novel. I loved all of the characters, and felt a friendship with them all. I felt the pangs of despair when they were in turmoil....and abandoned when they did. I liked how this novel builds from the others and puts an end to the magnificent world where I flew along Harry Potter and conquered evil because I knew how to love.
