Pretty heavy Phillip Roth, but it portrays his knack for story telling and delving deep inside several characters in one novel.

i photocopy individual poems out of this and tuck them into my luggage on trips, i copy them by hand into notebooks, i send them off to friends, and i hoist this comprehensive volume up from beside my bed in the foggy moments just before i fall asleep, blinkingly reading a long-loved peom or an overlooked one, to confirm my own thought-life and to hone my poetic senses. i adore milosz.
This was one of my favorites of 2004. A beautiful love story, and I thought she incorporated the concept of time wonderfully. I bought it completely. I have recommended this book to complete strangers, as well as my mother and best friend!

Sexy, erotic noir that references classic noir elements such as amnesia, a la Richard Neely’s “Shattered” and plastic surgery, like David Goodis’ “Dark Passage”. “Trap For Cinderella” is about a spoiled rich girl who shacks up with her introverted childhood friend, shutting everyone else out until a nightmarish house fire kills one of them and disfigures the other, necessitating intense plastic surgery. Fights over the inheritance and blackmail schemes abound while we try to figure out which girl died in the fire and which one survived, raising endless questions about identity. Sebastien Japrisot wrote brilliant suspense tales flavored with French New Wave erotica, giving it an original, modern spin. “Trap For Cinderella” will be out in theatres next year, but I’ll bet the film won’t be as sexy as the book.

This was the most disturbing book that I've ever read. However, I am so glad I read it. As a teacher I found myself constantly searching for evidence of child abuse.

Promise Me Tomorrow is a romance story written by a Christian writer. The religious parts of the story were not too bad, generally speaking. The characters and actual story held me through most of those scenes. There was only one scene that was too much for me, which I skipped altogether. Apart from that it’s a romantic story about a man and woman and the obstacles they must overcome to be together. It’s sweet, sloppy and totally predictable, but I loved it. I feel shy in admitting this, but it’s a story that could easily have been written by me (except for the religious content), because it’s exactly what I used to write when I first started writing. I adore reading and writing about the attraction between two people. You know what I mean…the sly glances, the adoration in the eyes, the fluster, the touch and the wanting to see the person again. And when I first started to write, I would build entire stories around these tender moments. Anyway, it’s been a while since I read a book that I couldn’t put down. I honestly think this book spoke to me because I have denied (openly and privately) my desire to write the type of story I really enjoy to read and write. OK, I know that a lot of people would read this book, or any number of other books similar to it, and think it is complete dribble, but I don’t care anymore. I’m tired of doing what other people expect of me. Maybe I’ll enjoy writing again, if I do what I want to do. This is totally my own fault, by the way. I’ve allowed general consensus to rule me. But no more! Promise Me Tomorrow is recommended to those with a tender heart.

A surprisingly fine read! Gary Lamb conveys such a warm sense of caring, humor, fun, and commitment to his spiritual life that even the most critical of readers will not be able to resist his charm. In LEGS OF LAMB: The story of one man's prayer walk around the coast of Britain Gary Lamb manages to bring us to the moment of deciding to make some changes in his life, relating his childhood disdain for forced church attendance with his mum, finding his relationship to God and the accompanying 'message' to perform a prayer walk, the rigors of preparing for the long excursion around the periphery of Britain. And that is where the book gains the most interest for the reader. How this lad could trek the thousands of miles through the most challenging terrain and lack of creature comforts and instead of simply relating the humor and the obstacles in his path, to focus on the reception of the folk with whom he stayed and prayed is nothing short of a spiritual experience for the reader. Doubtless, meeting Gary Lamb in person would impress the most astringent of minds, but the fact that he is able to retain the joys of his spiritual high and allow the reader to absorb his ceaseless good nature and belief system is just short of miraculous. This little book will be a welcome addition to the libraries of those whose spiritual lives are rich, but it is also a book full of love and pleasure of the journey of a man who encourages us all to connect. Reading LEGS OF LAMB is a pleasure on many levels. Grady Harp

Finally got through this beast. I have no idea how to rate this book so I'm giving it a neutral rating. Plot: 4.5 Quality of writing: 1.5 Hitting you over the head with rash generalizations? Yes Political ideology disguised as plot? Yes Still fun to read? Yes Makes you laugh at how seriously it takes itself? Yes I only kept reading because I was into the plot but I see why Fipp told me he'd never read Rand - reading a book that is just a cover for spreading political ideology can get really tiring. Once the copyright has expired someone should write the same book from the other perspective. Her inability to provide any nuance and to make things look so black and white is kind of creepy. People who think that issues are this simple are either stupid or have some sort of personality disorder. My brother told me (when he was about 17) that this was a book that everyone should read and no one should agree with. I agree with him on the second part.
