I sat and read this book in less than 2 hours so I obviously wasn't bored with it, it was fun to read and I liked the character of Santiago. I guess these kind of spiritual fables aren't really my thing, I'm too much of a realist. Perhaps I need to open my mind a little!

Profoundly mediocre. As the Fables franchise goes on, I feel like I would if my unpretentious corner diner stopped selling satisfying simple food and started using stale bags on dehydrated potatoes. It was never top notch stuff, but it was interesting, engaging and enjoyable, whereas I know feel like it has both grown in scale and decreased in quality. Not impressed.

Halfway through and I'm loving this. Eliot's grasp of social psychology is amazingly precise. I particularly like her demonstration of how ignorance, conservatism, and just plain stupidity not only hold society back, but really divide people in the most definite ways. ------------

I really liked reading about the schools and how they operated years ago and how they evolved over the years. The author talks about schools throughout Wisconsin and the ways of the one room school houses on their salaries and that the kids and the teachers took care of the schools and how they worked together. I would have loved to go to school back in those days. Where the students and teachers had a personal relationship and had a more simple way of life.
