I probably should give this book more than 3 stars, it is deserving of more, I think I didn't give it more because it presented, to me at least, a lot of information I already knew. What was new to me was the presentation of the evolution of the current education system. What the author says about how schools, "traditional schools" are taught and why there is so much room for improvement, is right-on-the-money. We are a country so unwillingly to accept unconventional educational methods, yet are jobs and how we work continue to change. Montessori is more child-centered and develops drive and an appreciation of gaining knowledge, which I think everyone should wish for their child when the reach adulthood. I do believe Montessori is not for every child, but I also believe it gets a bad rap, because people considering it for their child don't take enough time to understand it or investigate the school they are considering. Like with anything, all private and public schools included, each is different and some do a better job than others. At a minimum read it for her comparison of the learning methods.

Bella’s happiness is shattered when Edward and the rest of the Cullens leave Forks after a disastrous birthday celebration. Bella proceeds through the months lifelessly, only regaining a little cheer when she and Jacob Black’s friendship is kindled. Writing at the beginning was stilted. (It reminded me of The Babysitter’s Club where each book had to make sure and let the reader know about each character’s main attribute before proceeding with the saga.) Still, the writing improved dramatically after the first few chapters, and the story, as always, was enthralling. I think this book was everything you could ask for in a sequel. The same cast with development of some previously minor characters (ahem, the La Push crew), a good story continuing the saga, and the end of at least a thread of the story to give it some closure. The last time I read through the series, New Moon was my favorite, but I think I liked Twilight a little better this time.

One of my favorites. A novel about a young boxer in South Africa.

Good but moved a bit too slowly for my taste.

This was a fun fast read. Toxites are an interesting invention to explain why kids fall asleep or don't pay attention in school.

A really, really good page turner. The thing I love about Christopher Golden books is that they are always well woven. This is an interesting presentation of "the road not taken" idea, where we deal with parallel realities and time travel. It was logical, which seems a strange thing to say about time travel, but it really did make sense. There was an appropriately hideous antagonist and ends with a sly wink, a la Stephen King. In that Golden and King are similar; they both acknowledge that there are some forces that have a minds of their own. They also know the value of the human spirit. Both of their heroes are always good people, thought they may not necessarily always do good. They are realistic representations of the modern day hero, and that, I think, is the thread that holds these types of stories together. No matter how ridiculous or unbelievable these stories are, I am willing to suspend my disbelief because I fall in love with the frailties and strengths of the heroes in them. I think I will make it a point to read all of Golden's books. Though they may not be particularly deep, they satisfy that part of me that always believes in magic and the adventures that spring out of it.

Not a riveting read, but I enjoyed it. I disagree with some of the reviews of this book. You cannot presume to determine what a woman (in any era) would have chosen to write in her private journal. That is the purpose of a journal, to say (freely) anything you wish.
