I am abandoning this book with less than 100 pages to go. This isn't a bad book and anyone who has read anything by this author knows he can write the heck out of writing. It's just that the story takes too long to get where it needs to go. We all know that Dubus becomes and writer - and I am glad he did, for the previous titles I have read by him are fantastic- and after 290 pages of reading about him weight training and beating the crap out of other men, I just need to book to get there. It isn't, and I have this pile of books that are downright Sirens calling to me. I have to take the wax out of my ears and succumb to them. Farwell, Townie.

I liked it. I felt that it was kind of long and detailed at some parts, but just as I was thinking that, it started picking up. The ending obviously made me crave for more and made me want to read City of Glass immediately -- I wondered how other people waited for a year before getting to that! I think this was more of a build-up to the final book, where all unanswered questions at this book was forwarded to the next, weaving all stories tightly together. Now I want to re-read the whole trilogy just to make sense of everything again. :)

Sakit. Pesan dari Brandy itu, yaitu: Do the things you don't want to do. Make a big mistake you think to make. Kira-kira pesannya begitulah. Pesan yang aneh? Memang. She says, "Not that it's bad being a woman. This might be wonderful, if I wanted to be a woman. The point is," Brandy says, "being a woman is the last thing I want. It's just the biggest mistake I could think to make." "I'm not straight, and I'm not gay," she says, "I'm not bisexual. I want out the labels. I don't want my whole life crammed into a single word. A story. I want to find something else, unknowable, some place to be that's not on the map. A real adventure." Kesimpulannya? Silakan dicermati sendiri. =)) Saya sampai bengong sendiri ketika baca ucapannya Brandy. Serius? Oh, noooo... And, wait until you find another surprise that Palahniuk has prepared for you in this book.

One of the best books I have read in a very long time.

It's nice to read a book about accepting reality as a kid. This story is funny and has enjoyable characters, living in a reality that almost every adult can recognize from somewhere in their past.

An interesting look at the people involved in the development of early computers and the culture in which they worked. I found it fascinating at first but felt the book lost steam as it progressed, and eventually put it down for good about 30 pages from the end.

Sula was an symbolic book. The character of Sula symbolized the view of a black women in a white womens eyes during racism. One would recommend this book to read because it is not only interesting but an ideal way to symbolize racism. The book Sula by Toni Morrison over all was an excellent book. Imagery with in the book made it more exciting because it draws a reader into the overal moral of the book. " One should never be judged on the color of their skin but on the personality they protray".

Does this count as chick lit? I hope not because I did enjoy this and it seemed to have a good story line. I'd read The Devil Wears Prada last year sometime and liked that too. Could really identify with Bette's love of romance novels, esp the naughty ones with sex scenes in ;)

An enjoyable read, although it is another in the series with more land-based story than sea-based. The shipwrecked crew are imaginatively rescued. Aubrey gets a new ship and has a fine cat-and-mouse encounter with the French. Maturin has found a kindred spirit in Martin: much of the book is given to their naturalistic pursuits -- enough in fact to make Aubrey a bit jealous of Martin.
