Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is the story of an amazing human being. It is the definition of kindness and is described so specifically, thus “stargirl” the way all people should be. Stargirl loves her life giving all that she can to everyone that she meets whether she knows them or seen them around or has heard from the “announcement” section in the newspaper about them. She just cares and shows that she does more than anyone in Mica Arizona has seen. She dresses however, she wants. She accepts people’s criticism for being different, but as she continued to live the way she wanted to the love for her different way turned into hate. People began to hate the girl who never did anything to them but be herself. Then she fell in to what they wanted and began to dress like they did, she quit singing in the cafeteria and became the norm. Then because she was the same people began to hate her. She became extremely unhappy and missed herself. In no time she returned to the strange person she always was. As the book stated “She was illusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was illusive. She was today. She was tomorrow…In our minds we tried to pin her to a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew". There is much more in the book but I just thought explaining Stargirl and who she was, was enough because if I said more I would be giving it away. I recommend this book because it shows the world that there are people out there who care for others. In addition, it shows that not everyone is a person who cares about superficial things. It’s also a good way for people to see that it is alright to be original. And towards the end it shows that you never really know you are in the presence of greatness until you are no longer near it, but somehow the impact of that person is enough to get you through the days. I recommend this book to everyone. Its technically a 5th grade book but it touches everyone. Its message is so clear “Be yourself” but the way its told goes beyond anything I’ve read. The fact that it is small, it makes the fact of reading it so much better. A friend in fact recommended me this book in my acting company. She told me I had to read a book called Stargirl. After reading it, I realized that it was the nicest compliment a person could ever tell me.

Read Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan right through the Superbowl. Finished with puffy eyes and a completely stuffed up nose, which kept me up for an hour or so, remembering our own sweet poodle, Marley. Grogan's Marley sounds more like Jack, our family's labradoodle puppy, which makes sense because Grogan's Marley was a labrador. Jack's got the same willful behavior, the same energy, the same strength, and he's huge. All the same, the similarities between all dogs was there and depicted well enough for me to have flash backs of watching Marley grow from a puppy to an adolescent to an adult to a dignified retiree. I'll always be a true dog person. R.I.P. Marley P.P. Sharpless.

A great mystery - I couldn't put it down! The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is because I like my endings very neat and tidy with everything wrapped up. Since learning this book is the first in a trilogy I will come back and update my ranking to 5 stars if the sequel succeeds in answering all my questions. Can't wait to dive into the next one.

This story didn't grab me right away but was interesting enough to keep me going. There is a barrage of characters that I am a bit confused on occasionally but am managing to keep it straight. Now two-thirds through the story the mystery aspect of it is finally grabbing. Not a fantastic book but I am enjoying it.
