It’s time to follow Sir Samuel Vimes on another adventure that’s takes the reader from the countryside, to deep dark, smelly caves, and finally a trip on the rivers and the high seas of Discworld, while keeping you on the edge of your seat for the entire ride and leaving you craving for more. Vimes is taking a forced vacation, and everyone knows the only person who could make him do that is his wife. Lady Sybil thinks by going on vacation she will have Sam all to herself, but little does she know the country has bigger cases than in the city and less law enforcement. Before Sam can get any information on what’s going on in the country his informant disappears and the local constable shows up at Sam’s house and accuses him of murder. When Vimes finally finds out what’s happening he has to overcome country peasants, smugglers, murderers, and the rich. But can he do it in time to save the weak and defenseless goblins from being smuggled and sold into slavery or will they be lost forever? For Vimes to win he will have to accept help from people and things that he despises, but can he do it in time to save the weak and defenseless goblins from being smuggled and sold into slavery or will they be lost forever? Pratchett has yet again created another masterpiece to add to his already legendary Discworld series. Snuff is an amazing installment to the famous Discworld novels, but unlike the other Discworld novels Snuff is more serious with less of the famous Pratchett wit. The storyline was amazing, and in this humble writers opinion Pratchett can do no wrong, but there was a notable difference from Pratchett’s other works. Snuff focuses more on Vimes and his family, and of course his faithful manservant Willikins, with an almost complete absence of the other Watch characters. Pratchett seemed to want to map Sam Vimes’ character out more than he has done in any of the other Discworld novels. He describes Vimes’ thought pattern, beliefs, and makes you understand why Vimes makes the decisions he does. It seemed like Pratchett wanted people to look past the characters and their world and actually understand what it means to make a decision where there is no right or wrong answer; one is just a little less horrible than the other.
