Another book that caters to my love for all things grammar related. I loved diagramming sentences in 8th grade honors english, and Florey's book presents an entertaining discussion of the origin of diagramming sentences, and even goes into attempts to diagram sentences by authors like Proust. High brow entertainment.

Ever since I read this book in a high school English class it has topped my list of favorite books. Besides being full of brilliant Biblical allusions, the book also has characters who are strong, independent, thoughtful, and wise. Family relations are looked at in-depth as are perspectives of good and evil and people's motivations in life. While one man is kind and tries to make his life and family happy, another character is just the opposite, achieving "happiness" through deception and malicious behavior. I have read this book about three times, and even used it in a paper I wrote once; every time I read it or read about it I find more things to love about it and also to think about.
