Ok, I confess. I couldn't finish this one. I am perplexed. It is one of YALSA's top ten books for 2006. I'm guessing that you had to read the previous two books in the fantasy. Nothing much happened in this book, although the characters, particularly the King, were interesting. But I just couldn't read through another page of dialogue where nothing much happens. My bad.

Best book i've read so far. The type of book that you start reading at 1 in the morning and dont look away to see the time until its 3 30 and decide to stop at the end of the current chapter. Then look at the clock again and realize its now 4 30 in the morning and you blew right past the chapter end. Then the tv stand creaks and you almost scream out loud. Finally you decide you've had enough for the night and turn out the light instantly regretting it. Wishing you hadn't left the last 100 pages unturned and the horror unsettled which leaves room for your imagination to run. Don't expect to put the book down any time soon after you pick it up. It makes me feel guilty giving other books identical 5 stars.

I am giving the audiobook version 5 stars. The story was okay, but the performance was incredible. If you've never listed to an audiobook, I would recommend this as one to begin with...but then again, it might be setting the bar too high for the rest.

My son found this book for 99 cents at walmart of all places. He bought it and told me to read it first. I liked the first fourth of the book. I had a hard time getting through the second fourth. I just finished reading the last half with only one short break. I enjoyed it. The story was inventive and had a few laugh out loud parts. I might actually pick up the second book and read it just to find out what happens next.

Featured at An Abundance of Books Despite some very nice world building, and likable characters, this story just seemed to get away from me at times. Whether it got too wrapped up in gadget description, action that I couldn't keep up with, or plain ridiculousness that didn't seem to fit the story, it was all just too much.
