Biblical scholarship, no matter how researched, enlightening, or entertaining, always seems spurious to me and as part of this series it caught me by surprise. Grossman shed an interesting light on this story but failed to connect with me on any deep level.

I'm finally moving from this from currently reading to read. Because I'm clearly not going to finish it. I was unimpressed. And I wanted to love it. He is clearly an awesome writer, but these stories just didn't gel for me. Sorry Daniel.

Definitely NOT appropriate for everyone. A lot of cursing and sexual reference/humor. VERY funny. I enjoyed reading from the perspective of both Annabelle and John. They also response to what the other says in each chapter and that's funny in itself. They insert a ton of statistics about marriages which was interesting. Definitely an interesting read that I enjoyed, but not something I'm going to be reading again in all likelihood.

It might be kiddie lit, but I'm a sucker for a book in which cats teach each other craft and use terms like "paw work" and "improvement in the waggle." It's like watching a poetry workshop but much more fun. Not for the mice or rats, I suppose. But for the reader. And he knows more about cats than Desmond Morris. Because some things Desmond couldn't explain in CAT WATCHING do get explained here. So there, IN YOUR FACE, DESMOND! Your kids might like this book.

A good quick paced read. You learn enough about the characters to maintain your interest, but it is not overly done. The story is interesting and follows a simple plot. In many books it would not be enough, but here it is done well and the reader is left feeling they know enough to be part of the story without having to know everything that is happening across the world, a fine balance most authors fail to find. After reading the 1100 some odd pages I wanted more and went searching for the second book in the series ....

Then, they will use teacher-selected primary and secondary source materials to research and explore these ideas and events. They will then prepare a brochure that illustrates the causes of the Dust Bowl, the effects of the Dust Bowl, and a timeline of important events of the mid 1930’s. Students will employ poetry, exposition, visual Literacies, non-fiction, and other styles of writing to complete this assignment. They will learn how to provide MLA-Style in-text citations as well as compose a list of references. They will demonstrate paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting, and delivering information in different ways.

This book fills part of the 13 year gap between "Dune" and "Dune Messiah" and does an excellent job. I can't believe that I have read all of the Dune books. And I am still having fun with them. Don't start the Dune series here, but if you are a Dune addict, you will like this one, too.
