When you have an author write a series of books that give advice, it is almost unavoidable to hear lines approximating the statement, "As I discussed more thoroughly in my book X regarding Y, ...." We're already reading your book. If we're not impressed enough by it to go and read it after we've finished reading all of your profound, knowledgeable advice on said topic, your pathetic attempts to plug your other book only serve to irritate. Buckingham has put out at least 4 business books I'm aware of, and how often does he do this? Only as needed. His books are not repetitive, they cover summarily different subject matter, and a reference to his other titles is done sparingly and no more than he references other books and authors. I have to commend the guy on that, because I've already extolled his virtues in my other reviews of his books, so I thought he deserved that one. I didn't get this for myself, and I'm not a manager, but I still learned quite a bit. Buckingham knows how to take a topic that has the potential for gross ennui and actually makes it interesting, so I commend him yet again. Don't read Zig Zigglar. He's just as much of a hack as the businessmen that read his books. And if you're politically correct and noticed I said businessmen and not women, it's because I'd hope women would have enough sense not waste their money on the Antony Robins of sales techniques and cold-calling. If you want a good business book, Buckingham, Ram Charan, Wayne Dyer, John Maxwell - these are your guys.

Vanessa tries hard to not love Graeme and he refuses to believe in long term relationships but how do you fight the passion they share and connection that bonds them so closely as one? I try not to have favorites in a series but this one is a slam dunk winner with me. Graeme and Vanessa get under your skin and make you love every moment you are reading about them. They are fun, exciting and downright perfect.

The Concept: Virginia Wolfe takes readers on a walk while she meanderingly enacts why women need a room of their own in which to become independent thinkers. I read this book quite a while ago, but I really enjoyed it. Any feminist should read one of the movement's best authors. And any woman will appreciate why that one room is so essential.

This book had so much potential to be humorous, except that it wasn't. It bored me to death! I had to stop reading. Actually I skipped to the second-to-last chapter, and the main character still hadn't fixed her problem. Mind you when I jumped, I was already half-way through the book! Big disappointment.

To my Goodreads friends this isn't a glitch in the system--I really just finished reading this book! Granted it was about 156 pages with large type and some pictures, but it's a book, I finished it, and it counts. Zag is Marty Neumeier's follow up to The Brand Gap, though they don't have to be read in sequence (as I'm hoping to start TBG next week). I found the book easy to understand, and full of nuggets of wisdom and advice. As I'm leading a team at work to rebrand the organization this was timely and very helpful.
