No se puede negar que Steinbeck, por lo menos en las formas, escribe como los ángeles, pero admito que en muchos ratos me ha aburrido. No sé, me encantó National Velvet cuando la ví de pequeña, pero dudo que ahora la viera durante 10 minutos. No quiero decir que no me haya gustado, pero no he conseguido empatizar mucho con los personajes. De los cuatro "minicuentos", el que más me ha gustado es el segundo, y creo que es el que menos tenía que ver con la temática general del libro. En cualquier caso, no creo que para mí le haya fallado solo que no me interesasen los detalles de la cría del berberecho salvaje... digo, el cuidado de los caballos, creo que lo que menos me ha gustado, es que la trama y la estructura son demasiado planas. En fin. A años luz de La Perla o Las Uvas de la Ira, pero supongo que para pasar un rato no está mal.

This is a really fantastic read. It is about a freshman high school student who is moving across the country from his home in Philadelphia(go eagles!!!!!)to California. Where his mother got a job working for his uncle that doesn't really know how to talk to the star of this book. while in California he meets a bully while doing an errand for his mother. The bully from that point on is relentlesly bullying the main character.until the point where the main charcter is paying the bully off.

This is a sweet novel set in the South about a family struggling w/ mental illness. The mother was a previous beauty queen and embarrasses her daughter/family by periodically wandering through the town in her gown,crown and sash which leads to devestating results, changing Cee Cee's life forever. The characters are fleshed out and situations are believable and poignant. A good, clean read!
