Ok. So I read it. What a S_L_O_W read, and a little confusing. All the hype I've heard about this book over the years did not match the reading experience for me, at least. I get the general point of the book, that without law any society can quickly move toward savagry. But the way Golding wrote was just so abstract and heavily detailed, yet without giving INFORMATIVE detail, I just felt a little clueless on just about every page. (I still don't know how the boys even got there!) Really pretty disappointing, but I can finally say I read it. Just answer me this - WHY is this book very often standard literature for middle/high school aged students?!?!?! Good grief... Now, onto a book I can look forward to reading.

One of the best graphic novels to come out of the dark period of the 80s. Frank Miller imagines a dark, dystopian future for a retired Batman. The portrayal of Superman is brilliant, the female Robin is awesome, and the story is just overall fantastic (and dark as hell). A classic for a reason.

This book made me think. An adventure of the mind and spirit is exactly what it is.

The perfect marriage of romance and mystery. -- Skye W.

the writing is entirely opaque, but i still give it five stars because the illustrations are so top-notch and the element of buried treasure (the book holds clues to a hidden jeweled hare that was found a year after the book was published) is fantastically engaging.

Loved it! As always the book is better than the movie, and maybe right on par with the play.

first read: december 2005. this is an airplane read. it's about absolutely nothing (ok, shopping, society, gossip, new york city, rich people) but sykes is a pretty snappy writer. i ate it up. because i was on the airplane. and someone made me. someone physically wrested my copy of proust away and replaced it with this. second read: july 2012. why was i so embarrassed about this? plum sykes is effing hilarious, and reading her makes me so happy. great satire, and perfect subject material for jet-lag recovery.

I have read 5-6 of Jodi Picoult's books and this is far and away my favorite. You feel for every character in the story and can't decide what the ending should be.

This one is good if you're looking for an epic type of book... lots of adventure and action and some great themes in this one... it's hard to put into a summary. All I can say is that it was one of the books my mentor teacher suggested to me to keep me sane in grad school and it worked.
